Best way to cook a steak for a romantic dinner?!

Question: I'm going to be cooking some steaks tonight for a new gal. We're cooking it at her house and I don't know whether she's got a grill. If all she has is a stove/oven, what's the best way to go about this? Thanks ahead of time!

P.S. I'm thinking baked potato and salad...red wine. Any other (easy) ideas?

Depending on the thickness of the steak, sear it in the frying pan and then finish it in the oven at 350 (wrapped in foil) until cooked to your desired doneness (suggest using a meat thermometer).

That sounds like a great dinner.

Maybe something light for dessert, since the meal is heavy, such as fruit and whip cream or fruit with chocolate fondue.

grill it

Use the broiler.

let it soak in worchestershire sauce for about 1 hr. season it with monterey seasoning. then cook it slow. guaranteed !

Depends on how she/you like steak.
You can do the pan seared stlye, grilled. or slow roasted like prime rib or rump roast.
Pan seared, go with a mushroom and red wine sauce, or can do a parmesion/white wine sauce..
grilled.. do the steak and potato thing. Baked are easiest, but can do cheesy scalloped potatoes, or even mashed.
Red Wine for red meat, go with merlot, burgandy, or ziffendal (not white/pink ziffandel!)
As for salad- dont do the plain lettuce in a bowl thing.. suprise her.. go to food network and make a advacado/papaya salad, or a mango/chile style salad.. you'll be happy you did..

Best Way to Cook a Steak sSs Style

Start with a great steak, an awesome young under 18 month old on the hoof yearling, boss Taraus English decendant or cross meat that has been aged, hung or cryovaced, and has been on a feed ration of grain for a minimum of 100 days. The butchery is ultra important as the steaks need to be denuded of sinew and definitely cut across the grain, the meat also needs to be nicely marbled as this acts like a moisturizer as the meat cooks.

Now for the cooking, we prefer flame grill to bring out the awesome bbq flavours, slight smokiness and caramelizing, this flame grill needs to be very hot so it seals the meat both sides. This meat by the way should be at least an inch thick after it has had a very slight tap with a meat mallet to make sure it has an even thickness all over. Now this is where most people disagree, cause we believe once all the moisture is sealed in, you can season for flavour with salt, pepper paprika etc; or sSs flame grill seasoning BBQ mate, turn the steak until the correct amount of doneness is achieved.( as some may say not to turn the steak until the blood starts to come through from the top, then turn) we believe this dries the steak out.

Now to tell if the steak is cooked please don’t cut the steak to see, as this lets all the juices out, and what you are after is a big juicy steak, if you have a great piece of tender meat, as it is cooking, touch it, thin food grade gloves on of course, and if it feels soft like your cheeks (soft), it will be somewhere around rare, if it feels a little firmer something like the flesh on your chin,(slightly firm) it is somewhere around medium, and if it feels even firmer like your forehead, (firm and not spongy) then it is around well done. This is why the best way to eat your steak is around rare to medium, so not to toughen and firm with no juices, like well done.

Now for the final touch before serving up to your friends and guests, we like to lightly brush our famous BBQ glaze on just before it comes off the grill, it caramelizes and brings out the amazing country flavours, ( sSs is famous for) straight on the to the real hot sizzle for a bit of theatre which brings all your senses to experience the sound, the sweet smells, wow it is getting my tongue salivating right now! The biggy now is to under cook it slightly on the grill, let it rest and set, because it will keep cooking on the hot sizzle!! One thing for sure, it will be hot, juicy and tasty, just the way you like it.

Let the steaks sit at room temp for about 30 minutes before cooking - they will cook a lot more evenly this way. Preheat oven to 300. Heat a bit of oil in a pan on medium high heat until it's really hot. Add steaks and let sear for about 3 minutes. Then, using tongs (don't poke with a fork!) flip them and sear another 2-3 minutes. Place in oven and finish to your doneness - medium rare for 1 inch steaks is usually 3-4 minutes. Be sure to let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
Potato and salads sound great - and the red wine is PERFECT. If you have a veggie you can steam or roast, great, if not, you're all good!
Have a great night!

The best way is the broiler do you have a t-bone?or a good cut? only cook it for around 7 min on each side this is "medium".That way the meat is still tender and its not bleeding. Put some salt and pepper and a few dashes of worchestershire sauce, and your good!!!You can put that potato in some plastic wrap or a plastic baggie poke a few holes in the potato and in the microwave for 5 min,,then you can have a baked potato in alot less time!!make sure you put plenty of butter and salt and pepper and something green to make it look pretty, like parsley, or some dry green herb ,may be some sour cream!!salad and red wine that sounds great she should be ready the next date!!I would have loved it if my man made a steak for me on the first few dates!!

first you season it and then you put it in the broiler for 4 min on each side and then you should be at a nice med rare and the steak will be great if you like med well then go for 7 min on each side then you will be good to go, with red meat then a nice bottle of merlot will work wonders. also do some steamed veggies to add color to your dinner like brocoli, yellow squash, and some carrots that will be awesome!!!!! man i wish i had a steak!!!!! also if she has a grill then it would not take long on there but do not pan fry it for a premium steak you will mess it up and you do not want to do that. good luck

basic steak
You will need: two T-bones, steak sauce, worcheister sauce (however u spell it), pepper, garlic powder

use 4 tbs (or as much as you please) of steak sauce, half a tbs of worcheister sauce and pepper and garlic
marinade for 1 hour and grill

add baked potato, salad, and you're good to go

My dad makes a pan-fried steak with a whiskey cream sauce. My mom says it is to die for!

Brown steaks in butter in skillet. Remove from skillet and place in ovensafe dish. Cover with foil and cook until you like it at 425 F. (usually about 10-15 min.) In the skillet, add 1/2 c. heavy cream, 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard and 1/2 c. whiskey. Bring to a boil, scraping the dried bits from the bottom of the pan - they add flavor. You can add sliced mushrooms if you like, and don't forget the pepper!

They just have a plain salad of greens and sliced tomatoes with dressing. A small box of fancy chocolates for desert will finish off the bottle of red!

Your on the right track. A salad is always great ( red wine vinegar, Olive oil and fresh squeezed lemon ) also add small chunks of Feta cheese. The potato ( rub with olive oil bake in foil ) serve with butter, sour cream and real bacon bits. The steak, for romance Fillet Mignon will only do unless you can find a Chateaubriand cut ( Fillet Mignon for two). Don't cook any longer than 2-3 minutes per side. No fillet gets cooked longer than medium, that may even be to much. Let the pan juice be the only sauce. The wine, my choice, would be a Nuit St. George or a french Pinot. Don't forget the desert (top off the Romance). Banana's Foster don't forget to light the Brandy or rum. Candles.
You'll be a star. Don't forget the details Feta, bacon, Desert.
