Re-hydrating dried herbs?!

Question: Hi I'm making lasagna for dinner and I have a loaf of Rosemary Italian bread and I have some dried herbs I would like to brush the split loaf with before topping with the cheese. The question is, if i re-hydrate these herbs, what should it re-hydrate with ? How long will that take?Butter, olive oil or water and the drain them?

Either heat up the olive oil or butter in a pan. Then add your dried herbs. Stir for about a minute or two to release the oils in the herbs and to "wake them up". In cooking terms it is called "blooming". Then use this mixture to spread on your bread. You also do this when making any dish with dried herbs. I just did this process when making the stuffing for Thanksgiving. Be careful not to burn the herbs though. You just need a little time to bring out the herbs flavors.

I think olive oil or water would be the best. My choice would be the olive oil.

I've never heard of re-hydrating herbs. I always use fresh whenever I can. Rather than re-hydrating them, why not just mix the dried ones into the oil or butter (whatever you're brushing with)? They'd dry out again in the oven most likely, and there's less risk of losing flavor while you steep them. I would think that they would act like tea.

Herbs do not need to be rehydrated. They can be used as is. Use 1/4 of what you would use fresh- 1 tb fresh to 1/4tb dried. Place the dried herbs in the melted butter and brush on the bread.
