Do you think they'll notice it's not homemade?!

Question: My boyfriend's family is all Italian and they have a big family dinner once a week after Thanksgiving until Christmas. Two people were in charge of making lasagna, me and his mom. I asked if it'd be okay if I just got a frozen one and cooked it and she was like no because I make a homemade lasagna then another one where I buy a frozen one and add stuff to it. Then she blabbed on and on how they would be able to tell. Then she had a brilliant idea I make a healthy lasagna. I was like oh okay. I couldn't find a good recipe so..

So it's tommorow night, I bought like 40 freaking smart choice or some other brand microwavable lasagnas from 4 different stores and a big thing to put the lasagna in. Do you think they would be able to tell that I didn't make it if I put them all next to each other in this pan, pour sauce and more cheese over it, bake that, then cut it into seperate pieces?

Please don't give me another recipe what am I gonna do with 40 frozen personal lasgna meals?

I don't think you're going to be able to get away with this one. Why did you say you would do it in the first place? If you already have the pan, lasagna isn't hard. You can use sauce from a jar, and the no-cook noodles. All you need is meat (ground beef or Italian sausage), ricotta cheese, and mozzarella cheese.

Since they eat it all the time, yes they will most likely be able to tell. Just get a recipe and make it by hand!

Since you offered to make sauce, I am assuming that you have your own personal recipe. I would put the lasagnas as closely together as you can, pour your own homemade sauce over it and top it with plenty of cheese. I doubt they will know the difference, but too bad if they find out you didn't make it yourself. They had nerve asking you to make enough lasagna for 40 people. Next time make the salad.

yes they will be able to tell it isnt homemade.. they are italian....... if you cant make homemade, you should have offered to make something else because your oven/stove isnt working properly. too late now..... but yes, they will be able to tell.... i would never serve those cheapo lasagnes.... they taste terrible.... and it is an insult to serve them especially if you were asked NOT to buy those!!!

yes they will notice. Just one thing, what the hell were you thinking buy 40 microwave dinners? If you have to buy one, at least get one of the big ones you throw in the oven. Those microwave dinners are seriously substandard, do not insult your boyfriend's family by serving that crap. Look, obviously you don't cook. So instead of trying to fake it, just be honest and tell them you didn't feel comfortable trying to make a big dinner and bought something. But get something decent at least. As for the 40 mini lasagnas, I hope you like them, you'll be eating them for a while.

they'll notice. lasagna isn't that hard to make. try to find a few recipes and have at it!

i think you should do it the way you want to and if they dont understand that then you need to have a talk to your boyfriend and if you truely love each other then he sould tell his family the way it is and then drop the situation
look on the bright side if they dont like it they wont ask you to do it again lol
but i think it should be fine to do it the way you have the stuff the do
good luck let me know how they react to it

I'm with where_is. If they don't like it, too bad I say. But I would have gone with a couple of those big lasagnas and used those. I have had them both and the microwave ones aren't as good. Not everyone has the time and space to make huge dinners for 40 or 50 people.

I think whoever this person is - their expecations are too high!! Its like an episode of kitchen impossible.. If you have the money- BUY handmade lasagnas from a restaurant. If you don't, FTW make your lasagnas and if they complain too effin bad!!
