What was your smashing success on Thanksgiving?!
Answers: The mashed sweet potato and Granny Smith apple casarole was a big hit. I whipped them together with 2 cups of apple sauce, topped with mini-marshmallows. I made lots. There's only a little leftover.
It was extra special for my husband and I. Our niece and her boyfriend were visiting the US from the Czech Republic, it was their first time to the US, and their very first traditional thanksgiving dinner. They had learned about Thanksgiving and the pilgrims in grade school, so we took them to Plymouth to complete the experience. I made a pear/apple/raisin pie with Capt. Morgans, pumpkin pie, fresh cranberry sauce with Capt. Morgans and orange zest, mashed taters, green beans, fresh organic local farm turkey (awesome!) with stuffing. They loved it. They took pictures of the buffet with all the food to show theirs friends back home.
believe it or not, butternut squash. it's the first time we ever tried it. i cut it in 1/2, removed seeds, baked at 350 until tender, scrapped out meat, mashed with cream, butter and brown sugar
I got smashed.
Beef tamales and homemade honest to goodness cheescake. None of that Jell-O crap. Everyone there loved it and swear that they had never had a piece of real cheesecake.
the turkey was just about gone but still had plenty left over! The one thing that was almost all gone was my broccoli casserole
I took 8 oz of Stove Top Chicken flavored Stuffing and mixed it according to the directions on the box. I took a large can of condensed cream of mushroom soup and mixed that with about a cup of cheese whiz and stirred all of that together and poured it over a large bag of frozen broccoli florets thawed and drained. I made sure it was all mixed together really well and then I put the broccoli mixture into a 13 x 9 pan. I took probably 1/4 of a small block of velvetta and cubed it and spread it all over the casserole and then I spread the stuffing on top, baked for 30 minutes on 350 and it was really good and cheesy.
Homemade Pecan Pie warmed with ice cream
I made nothing but did my fair share of eating. LOL
My smash hit was my sweet potato casserole - I too, had very little left over.
