Can I freeze cookie dough?!


Question: I am going on a marathon cookie making extravaganza for the holidays to hand out to all my friends. I was thinking of making several kinds of cookie dough ahead of time, splitting the batches and freezing them. I'll use half the dough in a few days and half closer to christmas for the actual day.
Is this a good idea, or will the dough taste like it's been frozen? Any tips on wrapping?

Yes you can freeze cookie dough. Once you portion the dough in half, triple wrap it in plastic wrap, and freeze. When you are ready to use the frozen half, just thaw it out. It wont taste frozen if you wrap it tightly. I actually do this every time I make cookies, (for my own use) since I only make a few cookies at a time. Even in the bakeries Ive worked in we do this as well, although we shape the cookies and place them on the sheet pans before we freeze them. Bakeries usually have large walk in freezers to pull that off though. Hope this helps.

Yep, I freeze it frequently. Be sure to wrap it so it's airtight first. I use a double layer of plastic cling wrap with aluminum foil over the cling wrap.

Don't keep it frozen more than 4 to 6 weeks. When you want to use it, let the dough defrost in the refrigerator for about 2-3 hours

Have done it many times. Also refrigerating for up to a week is OK, as well, if well wrapped.

Freezing is a good idea, you can even freeze already baked cookies. The key is your storage. Heavy duty foil, inside a ziplock works well.

Make the cookie dough a few days before hand and just wrap in in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge. If you want to keep it for longer than that, put the dough in the freezer, like you said.

You can freeze cookie dough. What I suggest you do is make the cookie dough. Bake it and then leave it to cool for a couple of days. Then, take it out of the freezer and cut the cookie shapes. make sure the cookie dough isn't thin or otherwise, the next bit won't work. Cut roughly about in the middle and put in what you want: chocolate, cream, fruit, almonds or nuts. Then, recook the dough and then you have got your cookies. Hopes it helps!

Yes you can in an airtight container. I've actually found that freezing my sugar cookie dough for cutouts makes the process a lot easier when its time to cut out and bake.

yes ! measure out , cookie portions on wax paper/ small flat sheet-pan [ that fits in your freezer ] after frozen place in plastic bags. label and date them;ad a little time when baking from frozen. you can do this.
