Cleaning a sweet potato?!

Question: Everytime I have a sweet potato, it's filthy dirty on the outside, but I want to eat the skin for the extra fiber....regular rinsing does not clean all the dirt. What do I do?

You can use a clean toothbrush or a clean dishrag. Anything with a rough surface will work. Just hold the potato under running water and scrub with the rag or brush until its clean. If I get a potato that seems especially dirty, I coat it in shortening or butter and wait a few minutes and wipe it off with a paper towel and it gets the dirt out of the crevices. I always eat the skin, it's the best part!!!

They make a special brush to scrub things like potatoes and to get food off plates. You can use your Tuffy if you have one to scrub it too. I generally just rub it well under the water with my hands and pick out any stubborn pieces with my fingernail.

I scrub mine with a brush or one of those nylon pot scrubbers. I also love the skin and it is good for you.
