What happened?????????????????...!

Question: Last night I was making dinner went to the store to get a measuring cup it was a glass pyrex. Came home measured 1/2 cup of cream cheese and poured it into a bowl. I did not rinse the cup so it still had some residue in it. Next I chopped 1/2 cup of green onions and poured it into the bowl. I placed the measuring cup down. I then tried to open a parsley container and a couple seconds later the measuring cup exploded all over the place. It was not near heat or anything like that. That was the only things that was in the cup was cream cheese then green onions. When I say it exploded thats what I mean it didnt just crack I had glass from one side of my apartment to the other. Intrested to see what people think this could have been???

Only thing I can think of is maybe there was a defect in the glass and it chose that time to do it's thing. I'd take the receipt back to the store and sweep up the glass pieces and put them in a baggie and bring them back to the store and complain. Give them a call first and tell them what happened. You might not be the only one that has happened to so they may know of other instances - it might be something that needs to be recalled.

was it covered up? or maybe something else got into it and mixed with one of the items and created a chemical reaction... very strange though.

Pyrex won't even crack due to temperature. What my bake ware is made of, the only thing I can think of is the glass was somehow flawed, you didn't see it, and it broke.

I have only ever seen something like this happen when there are extreme changes in temperature. Was it really cold outside and hot inside???

I have never heard of that sort of thing before....I would not think that cream cheese and green onions would cause such a reaction that it would explode glass....

normally when glass shatters like it, there is an extreme temp change like from extremely hot to cold or vise versa....but you said it was not near heat so I have no idea...

I really do not know what to tell you.....I would call the place where you bought it and ask them if they had any customers call about similar circumstances......you might have received a defective measuring cup. It being pyrex.....it should have withstood some heat except extreme temps

That was a really scary experience, I'm sure! I found an article on a consumer affairs site that talks about this very phenomenon. Exploding Pyrex is not new; it has happened to other people before. Pyrex claims that it's a defect in the glass and that the glass doesn't "explode," but "shatters." I'm pretty sure the people picking shards of glass out of their hands would beg to differ. You are lucky you weren't hurt!

I had a pyrex baking dish shatter in my oven once. It was quite old so i couldn't take it back to the store. I did contact Pyrex though and they sent me a new dish. They said the glass can actually weaken from being banged around and it just chose that time in my oven to explode. Maybe your measuring cup just had a crack in it somewhen and the vibration of putting it down on the countertop was just the last stress it could take. If the store where you bought it won't take it back, call Pyrex. They'll replace it.

Your apartment is haunted.

Sounds like a crock of B.S. to me.

You have a ghost call 1-800-ghostbusters.
