What is your favorite family recipe??!


Question: This time of year, we love Red velvet cake. There is no another cake on the planet like it in looks for christmas, or flavor. Worth the effort a million times over.

Red Velvet Cake


2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cocoa
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 (1 ounce) bottle red food color
1 1/3 cups buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

Combine sifted flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa in bowl.

Cream oil and sugar in separate bowl. Add eggs one at a time, beat well after each addition. Add food coloring, mix until well blended.

Combine buttermilk and baking soda. Mix well. Add to oil-sugar mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Add vinegar and vanilla extract. Mix well and bake 25 to 30 minutes. Frost with Red Velvet Frosting.

Red Velvet Frosting:
5 tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cook flour and milk until thick. Stir constantly. Cool COMPLETELY. Cream margarine and sugar well. Add vanilla extract; beat. Add flour and milk mixture. Beat until right consistency to spread. Will get really fluffy.

This is my Mom's recipe. I posted it on RecipeZaar, but it is our own :-)

Old Fashioned Chicken Pot Pie

Filling
2 1/2-3 lbs chicken, cooked and removed from bone or 3-4 cups cooked chicken or cooked turkey, leftovers
2 cups chicken broth or turkey broth
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of celery soup
1 1/2 cups of sliced frozen carrots
1 1/2 cups frozen sweet peas
Crust
1/2 cup lightly-salted butter
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup buttermilk or whole milk (buttermilk recommended)
1/2 teaspoon salt




1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.
2. For the filling: Cook the chicken and remove the meat from bones, or measure out the precooked chicken or turkey.
3. Place the meat, the carrots and the peas in a buttered 9-inch by 13-inch pan.
4. Mix the broth with the soup and bring to a boil.
5. Pour the hot liquid over the meat.
6. For the crust: Mix all ingredients until smooth, pour over the chicken and spread until the crust is about 1 inch from the sides of the pan.
7. Bake the pie in the oven for 35-45 minutes, until crust is nicely browned.

Potted Possium Meat.......Ground up possium with ur fav. seasoning

Malt cookies. Personally I don't like them but my hubby's family does. My mother in law made them. She has since past on but I got her recipe. It is my favorite because I love the look in my hubby's eyes when he has them(he smiles too) and I love carrying on the tradition of the Christmas malt cookie. Can't disclose recipe. so sorry guys.
