How do I go grocery shopping?!

Question: I have little problem. Every time I go to the grocery store, I don't know what to get to make for dinner or lunch. I try but after a couple days the foods gone. I hope I am not sounding stupid because it really is a problem. I am new to buying my own food. For example sometimes at my parents there is nothing to eat in the house(that I like) but I still find something. At my house when there is nothing there that I like, there is no food. =(
I don't know how to fix this problem. I don't have tons of money to buy 600 dollars worth of groceries maybe like 200, so what do I do?
What do you buy for lunch and dinner in session?

Plan ahead.

Think of things that can be incorporated into a lot of different recipes. Some things that are like that are...

-Chicken breast
-steak
-dried pastas
-canned veggies
-frozen veggies
-packaged lunch meats
-bacon
-eggs
-potatoes
-ground meat

Those things all last a while (meat, if frozen) and you can make a million things out of them.

Plan out some meals you like, maybe a weeks worth.. and buy ingredients accordingly. That way you'll know you'll have some stuff for good meals on hand.

Make sure you have basics on hand too.. cooking wise. Spices you like, sauces, cooking oil, vinegars.. things that don't expire quickly. Bread keeps longer in the fridge.

Always look at grocery fliers too.. for coupons.. sometimes that's HOW I choose what to make.. based on what's on sale.

Go easy on things that will expire (like fruits, veggies and cheese) unless you have a plan for them within a week or two you buy them.. otherwise, you forget about them, they go bad, and you waste money.

Don't forget to stock canned soups, cup-o-noodles, mac n cheese and frozen dinners for nights you just don't feel like cooking.. but want something tasty.

It'll take a while to build up your pantry with cooking supplies... so buy a few key things every time you go.. flour, sugar, different oils, spices... I usually do this based on recipes.. then I at least have these things on hand for the future.

good luck!

Figure out what meals you want to make first. That's important!! Then figure out all the ingredients you need for those meals. [also, any snacks you might need] eat before you go grocery shopping so you don't just pick out whatever sounds good right that second, that is suck a mistake! and just get the best products for the lowest price you can. just planning, that's what helps!

First, I cut a lot of the coupons in the Sunday paper, then I take them to Safeway, using my Safeway Club Card, which is linked to my United Airlines mileage number. I stock up on foods that can keep in a refridgerator or freezer for a week, for my school lunches.

Or I'll cook a pot of spaghetti and eat it for a whole week for lunch.

It works for me.

well...make a list, of wat u do eat, and wat u wanna make, u can buy beef meat and make sapgetti and meat balls, or fish, to make fish sticks, or chicken to make a chicken soup

what I do is plan my meals ahead. I put like monday through friday and what is for dinner and lunch. then i go about what i will need for each meal.

Most IMPORTANT, make a shopping list and stick to it. I know people that basically eat the same things, so the same things are always on that list. Like ground turkey...( or beef) you can make a meat sauce, meatloaf, hamburger. Chicken breast... grilled chicken, chicken salad w/ left over grilled chicken, chicken marsala.
Always have on hand a head of lettuce, buy fresh not bagged. bag cost more. have "staples" for the salad, buy a tomatoe not riped so you don't have to eat it w/ in acouple days.
ok, we can go on and on... this is a loaded question, it's hard at first being on your own... good luck

dried noodles and soup in a cup is good for lunch and dinner and are a good price there usually at any grocery store. Try snacks too.

It really is hard to learn how to shop but take heart, it gets better. The main thing is to make a menu for a week at a time or or at least in line with how often you shop. When you plan what you want it really helps to save money by buying just what you need. Once you have the basics for your meals you can add snacks and stuff. Keep an eye out for thing you like when they are on sale and get a few extra.

First get the basic essentials, like milk, fruits, vegetables and other items the you use on a daily basis. Then you need to know what foods you plan to make ahead of time, like for lunches. It maybe helpful to find a diet plan that lists the foods you need for a day or a week and the recipes for the meals. Once you figure out what you use on a regular basis you can find the items you need or what easier.

keep a pad of paper on your fridge or counter. anytime something sounds good or you need something (such as bread, milk, cereal), write it down. also, i have found if i go to the store hungry, i do a better job of shopping. for some reason nothing looks good on a full stomach! i usually take cans of campbells soup or a sandwich and cheez-its for lunch. cheap and easy!

the best way to do it would be 2 make a list

or when you do get some extra cash..spend it on extra groceries

every time you go to the store..pick up a few extra things that you like..but wont eat right away..so its always there

when somethings on sale..say 5 cans of soup for 4 dollars...get the 5 cans..
