Broiling steak question?!
Answers: i want to broil a steak. please tell me what to do and how long it will take. i am pretty sure it cooks pretty quick broiled and will be juicy. i am a newlywed and learning how to cook!
Set the oven to Broil and turn the temp all the way up (over 450 F). Season both sides: salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder. Put on a broiler rack (a grill rack or line a pan with foil). Cook on one side until it looks kinda cooked (like you'd expect to see on the grill, check every 5 minutes) then flip it over and check again. If you're not sure if it's done, pull it out and cut a little in the center. If it looks the way you like it, pull it out. You can always under cook it, then put it back in the broiler.
I don't have any advice but Congratulations!!
Depends on the thinkness. I also broil with it marinated with veggies in the dish...VERY tasty. Also, food network's website has amazing recipes for any level of cooking
It would be better on the BBQ, but in a pan is fine too. Or oven. The trick is high heat, get that pan nice and hot. Spray it with Pam or butter it up, have the fan on cuz it might smoke and you dont want to set off the alarm. Put the steaks in the pan, and if they are about 1 inch in thickness turn the steak after about 4 min, and lower the heat around min2 , to about medium. Then cook for about 3-4 more minutes that should be medium rare which is the way steak should be eaten.
Best with potatoes. Dice potatoes, put them in microwaveable save dish, add water and cook in microwave for 6 minutes
also some veggies would be good. They can also go in the microwave.
Turn on broiler,
Insert meat,
wait til brown, pull out eat,
take down pants,
tell husband to insert meat,
wait till cooked,
pull out
go buy a meat thermometer to tell you if itis rare etc
ask your butcher about chuck eye steak not chuck.......... chuck eye
small ribeye alot cheaper
I think broiled food tastes best when the meat has first been seared. Place steak in a hot frying pan and sear all sides.....this will keep the juices inside the steak and make it taste extra juicy after broiling. Congrats & Good Luck. Put a lil love in your cooking, and it'll taste great! :D
It really depends on how you wish the steak to be. Score the meat if you like it medium to well done. For me, it usually only takes about 5 minutes per side and I'm done. Lately, I use the George Foreman grill, so I don't broil anymore. Congratulations and may you have a long and happy marriage.
Actually, I read something a while back on how to pan fry a steak. I think it would apply to broiling. This was in a chef magazine. Start with steak about an inch thick. Season it with some steak season, rub it in good. Then stick it in the oven at 250 degrees for about... I think it was about 20 minutes. Could have been less, though. Take it out and slap it in the frypan and cook per side about four minutes. It will good and tender and juicy. I did this with tri-tip and put it on the barbecue. It was great.
Broiling is a fast method for cooking tender cuts of meats, poultry, ham and fish.
If your range is equipped a broil feature which allows you to broil, you may use it to achieve that char broiled taste prized by so many. Broil with the door closed, for a cleaner, cooler kitchen. The smoke from broiling is consumed as it is drawn over a rod-type broiler element.
BROILING CHART
Rack Position // Temperature Setting /// Cooking Time First Side //// Second Side
Steaks 1" thick
Rare - 2nd or 3rd from top // High /// 6 - 8 min. //// 3 - 4 min.
Well Done - Lowest or 2nd Lowest // High /// 12 - 14 min.////10- 12min.
First of all congrats on the marriage, hope lasts forever. You are surely on the right track learning to cook as it is a thing couples can do together and share or at worst you can cook yourself some great grub when you are done.
Anyway, for the broiled steak I grind salt and pepper heavily on both sides and pat in a bit and let sit for a half hour. Fire up the oven to broil setting and get broiler hot. Drop your steak on the broiler and allow it to sizzle at this setting until it is seared well on that side, then pull out, turn and repeat. After this you will begin to test for doneness as with a 3/4 inch steak about 5 minutes per side will be about right, but that would be for medium rare. (I feel the only way to eat a juicy steak) If you want it more done leave in a bit longer or if you find you like it rarer take out sooner. You should be able to get a good feel for doneness when you flip the steak the first time and you see how far through it cooked the first half and then you can adjust the time.
I always use the pressing your finger into the palm of your other hand to know what a steak done medium rare should feel like. Semi firm and yet rebounds after the touch.
Mmmmmmmmmm! Good Luck!
1) PURCHASE BLACK ANGUS STEAKS, IF POSSIBLE. IT'S THE BEST, EXCEPTING JAPANESE COLBY STEAKS. HAVE THE BUTCHER CUT THEM 1 1/2 INCHES THICK. OR 2 INCHES THICK.
2) ADJUST OVEN RACK AS INDICATED IN 3 BELOW. TURN BROILER ON HIGH, SOME RANGES INSTRUCT YOU TO KEEP THE OVEN DOOR SLIGHTLY ADJAR DURING BROILING.
3) LIGHTLY SALT BOTH SIDES OF THE STEAKS. PLACE STEAKS IN A GRILL PAN AND PLACE THE PAN ON AN OVEN RACK APPROXIMATELY 3 INCHES BENEATH THE BROILER FLAME (IF GAS) OR ELECTRIC HEATING ELEMENT (IF ELECTRICAL).
4) BROIL FOR APROXIMATELY 3.5 MINUTES TO 4.5 MINUTES FOR MED. RARE TO WELL FOR 1 1/2 INCH THICK STEAKS AND ADD 1 TO 2 MINUTES FOR 2 INCH THICK STEAKS.
5) REMOVE FROM BROILER, BASTE WITH MELTED BUTTER, SPRINKLE LIGHTLY WITH GROUND BLACK PEPPER, IF YOU MUST, AND SET ASIDE TO LET SIT FOR ABOUT 3 TO 4 MINUTES TO EQUALIZE INTERNAL JUICES, THEN SERVE.
Regardless of how you cook them, many recipes recommend allowing steaks to stand at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before cooking, and allow them to rest for 5 minutes after cooking to keep them nice and juicy.
If you can grill them, you might find the cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com helpful. Enter the details about your grill (gas or charcoal), type of steak, thickness and doneness you want. It will give you instructions for how to grill steaks like an expert. It also has grilling tips.
Hope this helps. Congratulations!
