I need ideas for doing something different with mashed potatoes....?!

Question: I was thinking buttery mashed potatoes and maybe some garlic. I also was thinking of what to do with other ingredients such as cream of chicken soup, shredded cheese, mayo, and sour cream. Give me some ideas please.

Load them up. I make loaded potatoes.

I make mashed, then add things we like. Sour cream, cream cheese, shredded cheeses, durkee fried onions, a little salsa, red yellow and green bellpeppers sauteed in butter with a little onion, Jalapeno's, black olives, pepperoni chunks, crumbled cooked bacon or sausage. the Skies the limit.

i like to put grated Parmesan cheese with some milk cream not regular milk. my mom would put a little beef stock or meat juice or on some special occasions tomato sauce in for more flavor. it really depends on what the main course is which determines what would best compliment it.

I like using red potatos with the skins on boil them and mash them with some heated up milk and butter, roasted garlic thats minced up and chop up some chives and grate some cheese!its really good!! you can also mix some sour cream in that and it would be great!!

Try a cheese potato casserole. It's easy and good!

Here's the recipe:

Instant mashed potatoes (enough for 8 servings)
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 tablespoon parsley
1 cup (4 oz.) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cups crushed Cornflakes
2 tablespoons softened butter
1/2 teaspoon mustard
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon salt

Heat oven to 325. Prepare instant potatoes as directed on the box except decrease salt to 1/2 teaspoon and add garlic salt. Stir in parsley and cheese. Put into 1 1/2 quart casserole dish Stir remaining ingredients together and sprinkle on top of potatoes in casserole dish. Bake for about 20 minutes.

Serves 8

My mom adds sweet potatoes. Very tasty and adds colour.

I like sour cheese and shredded cheese. People also put bacon on top so that you're doing it like a loaded potato in mashed form. My aunt uses onion soup mixed in milk but the natural onions give a better flavor - also diced peppers for color is nice.

What I do with leftover mashies, although this works great with instant, is to make "potato patties." Mix the mashed potatoes in a bowl with an egg and enough flour to make a dough that isn't too sticky. Form them into a sort of hamburger shape, a bit on the thick side, and fry them on both sides. It's almost like a knish--they're great if you had a chicken or a roast that has gravy.
And have you tried adding Lipton Onion Soup to the mashed potatoes? My mom used to do that.

I make the potaoes, and then when I *** butter and mike to make them creamier, I sometimes also add a half a brick of cream cheese, gives it a nice subtle flavor. You can also make them as usual, then put them in a casserole dish, and grate some fresh parmesean cheese on top of them, and then put that whole dish in your broiler until the top of the cheese bubbles and browns....mmmm godd stuff.

ok, i dunno what to call it, but it GOOOOOOOOD!!! lol

make some ground beef (like you making taco meat). and make the mash potatoes. after everything is cooked to your liking, put the ground beef in a pan (medal, or the glass) not a cookie sheet, but a pan (round or rectangular) then put the mash potatoes on top of the ground beef, then put some cheese on top. then place in the oven until the cheese is melted to your like and then dig in. i swear, you be licking you fingers for days. lol. i just wish my oven worked. damn.

sour cream and bacon and cheese

This is a horrifly delish recipe that will definitely harden your arteries. Take 5 - 6 red skinned potaotes, cut them up and boil until they are almost done in well salted water. Then smash them with a small bottle of ranch dressing and 1/2 stick of butter, salt and pepper. Taste them at this point, they should taste good. You want them to still be slightly lumpy. Spread this mixture in the bottom of a greased baking dish and bake for about 1/2 hour on 350. Just let the top get brown and crispy. Then top with a bag of cheddar cheese, about 1/2 a large container of french fried onions (they aren't fresh, and 1 pack of pre cooked crumbled bacon. Pop it back in the oven until the cheese melts. It's so good.

Add some turnips with potatoes and some onion, mash it together, also try red beets, I tried it, and wow!! I liked it.
A nice change from just regular potatoes.

I make potatoes florentine:

I mash the potatoes, and add butter, then sour cream instead of milk. Then I stir in a 10oz pkg of chopped, steamed spinach that has been squeezed dry. I also fold in a handful of shredded cheddar cheese, put all of it in a square baking dish, then top with chopped green onions and a little more grated cheddar. YUM. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes?

miracle whip not mayo is good

sour cream is good

parmasan cheese is good

but.....

the best thing is.....

RANCH DRESSING

add instead of milk
