1 part chicken + 1part dumplings.

This tastes exactly like my grandma used to make
1 small chicken
Water
Pinch of salt
2 cups of all-purpose flour
3 Tbsp. butter shortening
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg

Boil chicken, adding salt to taste. When tender, pull chicken from the bone and return to the broth.

Pour flour into a bowl, leaving a hole in the middle. Add 1 egg and enough buttermilk to form a doughy consistency (similar to how you would make biscuits). Sprinkle flour on cutting board. Pinch off part of the dough and roll into a thin sheet and cut into squares. Drop one square at a time into broth. Continue this until all of the dough is used. Add salt and pepper to taste and simmer until tender.

Allow the dumplings to thicken the broth until it is a creamy consistency.

2 cans chicken broth
2 cans chopped chicken
2 cans refrigerator biscuits
1/4 c. chopped chives

Heat chicken broth and chicken on medium high in a Dutch oven. Make small balls from biscuits and flatten. Drop biscuit pieces into slowly boiling liquid. Allow to boil for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Turn heat on low or simmer for 5 minutes, covered. Before serving, stir in chopped chives. Serves 4.
This is fun to make with freshly clean hands. But be careful dropping the biscuit into the liquid. That's usually mom's job.

hope i helped.

EASY CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS

2 breasts (boiled and cut in small pieces)
1 can cream of chicken soup
2/3 can of water
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste

DUMPLINGS:

1 heaping tbsp., butter flavored Crisco
1 1/4 c. buttermilk
Flour

Mix first 5 ingredients in a dish until mixed well. Next, put 4 or 5 cups of sifted flour in a bowl. Make a well in middle of flour. Put in Crisco and buttermilk. Mix together. Use only enough flour to make a ball. (About size of a grapefruit.) Flour hands. Get a small ball of dough, flatten in between hands. Put these strips on top of chicken mixture until all covered. Bake in oven on 400 degrees until dough is brown. Lift up dumplings to make sure dough is done on underside, too

Bring your chicken to boil in a large pot until the chicken falls off the bone. Pour off broth and save. Pick out bones and discard. Season to taste (salt/pepper). Put chicken back into broth and bring to boil again. Take a can of biscuits, open it, pull off pieces of biscuit dough and drop into chicken/broth mixture. Cover. When dumplings (Biscuit dough) is cooked thoroughly (they will be dry inside), serve up.

here is my Mom's recipe for chicken and dumplings...

she boils her chicken until done and then removes it from the broth....if it is not rich enough, she will melt a little butter in it....she will salt and pepper her broth and milk. While she is waiting on it to boil, she makes up her dough.....she takes self-rising flour and then she takes about a table spoon of shortening and "cuts" it into the dough...she blends it in there where there are no lumps....she adds milk and makes her dough.....she drops it into the boiling broth and puts a cover on it and cooks it until done...

My Brother in law told me how to make those dumplings you find in canned dumplings.......you take and break you some eggs and then keep adding flour until its is good and doughy....roll it out as thin as you can and then cut in strips....you drop it into your chicken broth and let it cook until done.....

Take leftover turkey, place in water bring to boil, or use chicken bouillon. Use Bisquick, mix with milk till you can form balls. Wet spoon in boiling bouillon spoon the size dumpling you want into boiling bouillon, cover pan, cook on low heat 15 min, turn over 15 min more.
