Is there such a thing as a very low fat donut recipe?!

Question: or one that you dont deep fry. My friend has pancreas and gall blatter problems. The doctor told her to lay off the fatty foods. She loves doughnuts. I would like to make her some. She has been bedridden for a long time and i thought they might cheer her up for the holidays.

Here is a delicious oven baked recipe.

OVEN BAKED DONUTS

1/3 c. scalded milk
3 tbsp. sugar
3 tbsp. shortening
1/4 tsp. salt
1 pkg. yeast
1/3 c. warm water
1 egg
2 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Stir sugar, shortening, and salt into hot milk. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Beat the egg and add. Stir in the flavoring. Add the milk mixture alternately with the flour and nutmeg. Cover the bowl and let rise until double in size. Place on board or pastry cloth and roll until about 1/3 of inch thick. Cut with donut cutter. Place on greased cookie sheet, then brush with melted butter. Bake about 15 minutes in a 375 degree oven. After baking let cool slightly and dust with powder sugar or roll in granulated sugar while still warm. Enjoy!

............?

You could try frying the doughnuts in a better oil...like canola or sesame seed versus vegetable.

I wish!

I don't think so.....

you could always try baking them instead of frying them in fatty oils

I do not think that there is such a thing as fat free donuts.

Bring her a basket of goodies like hand cream, with those cotton gloves and other non-food goodies.

Absolutely not! Sorry.

You can buy a donut pan and bake them, and if you make it them with a low fat batter (something like a spice cake mix beaten together with a can of pumpkin and nothing else - no oil, no egg, no water, just the pumpkin), they would be pretty low fat.
