Is chicken salad an unhealthy choice?!

Question: I know it all dependant on how it's made but just in general. I eat a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant with a side salad from a local cafe once a week, and I'm just not sure if it's good for me or bad.

I doubt 1 time a week is all that bad if you are keep the rest of your diet "clean". Chicken Salad is made with Mayo..which is high fat. Crosissant are also higher in fat than plain bread(but oh so yummy).
I do belevie that this is as bad as eating a fast food burger on.

Just beware of the mayo!

It depends on how the chicken is prepared grilled then its real healthy, breaded healthy but contains calories from the breading and grease. Also depends on what kin of dressing and how much you use!

t think one in week is opkay

It depends because some mayos and dressing can be really high in calories and fat. Chicken is one of the least fatty meats though especially if you make sure it's only made with breast meat.

I think moderation is the key- once a week is not bad.

Watch out for the croissants, too! :)

chicken salad tends to be high in fat (mostly from mayo ) but at once a week it will do u no harm especialy with the side salad for balance.

Chicken salad is not so bad but eating it on a croissant is bad. Opt for chicken salad wrap once a week and you'll be eating alot healthier.

The worst part about it is the mayonnaise, but it is only once a week and I don't think that is a big deal.

once a week, no biggie. the biggest concern is the fat content (not just the mayo in the chicken salad but also the croissant, which is made with loads of butter) but if it's only once a week, i don't think that would be bad.

Yes, unfortunately it sounds healthy, but its typically not. How generous they are with the chicken salad? Because just 5 oz, which is just about 1/2 a cup, has over 500 calories and 25% of your daily fat allowance. I assume the use regular not light mayo in their salad, which has 90 calories in each tablespoon. And, butter croissants depending on their size can contain up to 350 calories, another 25% of your daily fat, and they're high in sodium.

In just one sitting you could be eating 850 - 1000 calories and over half your daily fat intake! Ouch. That's the equivalent of a Burger King Double Whopper w/ Cheese !!

Good thing you only eat it once a week. If you're going to continue eating it, I'd suggest you eat light the rest of the day.

Make it yourself and use Miracle Whip (salad dressing) and have with a few crackers or as a wrap. But if is once a week and its your treat ..... go for it

If you're TRULY worried, I'd recommend that you switch to a sliced chicken sandwich on whole wheat, with lots of green veggies & mustard. The croissant has a LOT of fat (in the recipe, it takes a TON of butter), and mayo can be really high in calories -- even the lo-fat variety can be harsh.

However if its only once a week, and the rest of your week is good food, there's no harm in "splurging" once in a while. Deprivation is what truly causes problems!

Easy on the mayo., best on lettuce. Croissants are loaded with butter.
