Okay i need some food ideas?!
Answers: okay i have kids and when ever i go grocery shopping they always want junk such as chips, cookies but i want them to eat more healthy any advice on what to buy?
My daughter likes popcorn. I buy Butter Light. Also, buy bananas, apples, oranges, baby carrots, celery. I always buy light everything (less fat). You can can low-fat dressing to dip the vegetables, or low-fat peanut butter. How about a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? A bowl of milk and cereal?
If they eat the healthy snack, then they can have a small amount of chips or cookies.
Thats hard. Can you try fruits and then tempt them with carmel or chocolate to dip them in?
Maybe try granola bars or fruit roll ups. Low fat cheese with whole grain crackers. carrot sticks w/ ranch dressing.
carrot/celery sticks and dip
cheese and crackers
buy some jelly with no added sugar
2min noodles (the 99% fat free ones) because the normal ones have around 24gms of fat in them.
rice crackers
yogurts
popcorn with no added butter
as for meal ideas
chicken and pasta cheesy bake
boiled eggs
simple soups
pizza (get them to put what they want on them tho)
all kids love chicken
mashed potato and sausages or chops with some broc and cheese sauce
lasanga
Don't buy them the chips and cookies.
You could try nuts, fruits, or even trail mix.
If you want to bake stuff for them, try substituting about half the flour with oat bran. I did that a few times when I made brownies, and they were wonderful!
Try getting whole grain breads: Those are very tasty, either in sandwiches or with honey.
Or you could get them a bag of raw carrots to snack on.
Good luck!
Hello lusciousbrown! :-)
You have asked the $64,000 question! (Or whatever the amount is adjusted for inflation!)
There really is no "trick" to this. Having been through the same thing as you are dealing with (2 kids - grown and gone), I can only recommend you try the following:
1. Do not buy the "foods" that are unhealthy. Try celery with peanut butter or cream cheese or cheese or something similar instead.
2. Do not eat the undesirable foods yourself (at least not in front of the kids).
3. Research more alternative (healthy) treats. Find a way to make those "cool."
Best of luck to you.
Sounds like u want some healthy snack ideas....
well, of course fruit would be the best, so let them experiment with different types of fruits to see which they like prefer. Have them try some different ones too like kiwi, or pomegranites, or mango...strong flavors but not the boring old apple...
If they like veggies, u can get raw veggies of every kind for dipping in low-fat ranch dressing.
Quaker sells those popcorn cakes which taste better for the kids than the rice cakes. They have many different seasonings to choose from.
And if they can have the chips, try picking baked chips or pretzel sticks which are fat free.
my 4 yr old is very picky and 1 thing she will always eat is pretzels, tuna, and pickles.
Why not try making sure they are full when you take them to the store. Give them fruit and nuts for a filling snack right before you go. This may help.
It is really difficult but you might try just saying "no, you cannot have that. It isn't good for you but look at these nice fruits." Also, don't just offer fruit give them several options and let them choose.
