Can I replace almond flour with all-purpose flour in a recipe?!
Does it make any difference?
Thanks in advance for any answers!
Answers: I just bought a new cookbook and in almost half the recipes call for almond flour. I've never heard of almond flour before, and I was wondering if i could just replace the almond flour with regular flour?
Does it make any difference?
Thanks in advance for any answers!
Almond flour is finely ground almonds. When used in a recipe almond flour creates a delicate texture which is very desirable in many cookie recipes specifically. Unlike real flour it has no absorption qualities.
If you have a food processor pulse grind almonds (start with slivered almonds) Do not create a paste. Once finely ground spread out and let dry for about an hour for textural purposes. Some bulk natural markets may carry this product.
If you have no intention of doing this add 2tablespoons per cup of almond flour and it should be workable but the texture will not be comparable.
As a side note the person who commented before me if referring to almond paste which is almonds finely ground with sugar to create a paste....Different product...
Nope! Almond Flour cannot be replaced with All Purpose Flour. They react differently to moisture and replacement would cause problems with any recipe that I have ever seen. Baking is chemistry--proportions and ingredients tend to be rather important to favorable results.
Almond Flour (also called Almond Meal) is ground almonds; you can usually find it in natural food stores or at cake-decorating stores (it is used often in cakes and fillings). Making your own at home is pretty difficult--you can easily end up with Almond Butter (think Peanut Butter made of Almonds). You may, however, have success using other nut meals/flours if you prefer.
Happy baking!
