Dont celebrate xmas, but as a muslim.. one of our major holidays is on Dec 20th this year..(Im in Saudi Arabia) similar celebration though.. we dress in our finest clothes, give gifts, visit relatives.. give to charities.. etc... decorate up our homes (not with lights outside, though the markets do, but inside)
We will have the whole family together and probably have a huge meal of roasted lamb, with spiced rice, a few salads, some fresh fruit, maybe some traditional arabic tidbits (finger foods) and always baklawa (the fine flaky pastry desert).. then afterwards we sit around all full and drink coffee and tea and more fruits, nuts, and sweets with the coffee till we have to be carried away in a cart later.. haha!...

We usually have late breakfast and have a big dinner at around 2 or 3 p.m. Ham, turkey, sweat pot., green bean casserole, mashed pot., salad, cranberry sauce, and don't forget the desserts.
It's been our tradition to have a feast pretty much like Thanksgiving! Lots of family will be there!

Turkey and pork sausage dressing

We usually don't eat lunch on Christmas. Instead, we have a late breakfast. We like to make a casserole with sausage, eggs, cheese, bread, apples, and a few other things and bake it. What we do is cook the sausage and then put it on the bottom of the casserole dish and sauté the apples in the leftover sausage fat and mix them in with everything else and pour the mixture over the sausage. Then we cover it with foil and let it sit in the fridge overnight(you gotta make it the night before) and then you bake it at 350 for 1/2 hour covered and then another 1/2 hour uncovered.

It's really good. and it fills me up.

Roast Leg of Lamb
Potatoes Dauphinoise
Green Beans with Pancetta, shallots & pine nuts
A huge green salad

A variety of desserts

Growing up in Detroit, we skipped lunch because it was dinner time at lunch time. We always had Thanksgiving dinner all over again. Mumma's pumpkin nut bread was always a hit with our Christmas day party's, as was her peach upside down cake. (Hey I was a kid, I only liked sweets)

We have roast turkey, glazed ham, and sometimes a prime rib roast, with all the trimmings. One year, when it was just my husband and myself, we had BBQ'd ribs. It seems so strange not to have a turkey roasting in the oven on Christmas!

Wow, I never realized just how odd my family's Christmas tradition really is!

Our first actual meal of the day, together as a family, is usually at about noon. It is always advised to eat something before leaving your house because the time does change, depending on who was able to come home for Christmas.

So, after all the gifts have been exchanged, we start cooking! We have country ham, eggs, grits, bisquits and gravy! This started way back before I was even born because my grandfather just cannot make it through the day without having an actual breakfast and my grandmother wanted to have everyone together for a meal!

With my mother's parents being divorced and us having to visit them also on Christmas day, it was just decided that our Christmas day meal would be breakfast!

My mother's mom has since passed away and her father has moved to Florida, but we still keep the breakfast tradition!
