For your second question first. how much to feed 6 to 8 people?
Figure about 8 oz. or 1/2 pound for starters and maybe 1 pound per person depending on the person eating and other dishes you're serving with it. I always plan 3/4 to 1 pound per person (my generosity) 'cause when people eat prime rib they eat lots.
Todays going price for 1/2 prime rib on the bone (3-4 bones) is $11.99 in Tracy, Ca at the butchers Costco wants $8.99 a pound.

Sometimes grocery stores have sales, but it should be like $8.00-$16.00 a lb. And for 6-8 people, I think 3 pounds at most should be enough, depending on how much you eat.

Her in Texas they go from around 5.00 to 14.00 per pound.
