Magnetic Strips and knives?!

Question: Does anybody know if those magnetic strips (to hang your knives on the walls) can cause dents and chips on the edge of knives? My knife keeps getting these dings and I can't figure out from where. Could it be from water damage or something, I have no idea anymore

I am a former chef and agree with the first person, hand wash in soapy water and hand dry, and when you remove them slide them off down to the handle and then release them.

I have never had a chip, I have ones from Ikea and the work great, I have over 40 knives from my years as a chef, and only have the one's I use the most out. If they do have damage, have them professionally sharpened to remove the chips and they can buff out the dings to.

unless you let the edge hit the strip there is no damage to the knives, leaving them exposed in the kitchin is a hygenic question you got to live with. what brand knives are you using? and mostly, keep em OUT of the dishwasher oh and make sure your spouse is not using them to chop wood ore something like that...

I have one 10in french chiefs knife
I have never considered a magnetic wall rack....
I must be lucky,,, my knife cost $70+ and I sharpen it myself..
it sets out above my wood cutting board on the counter
no special attention
and I rinse it clean and dry with paper..
I think it is the quality of the steal in your knife.
Look at the edge with a magnifying glass..
Before and after sharpening.. it may be your stone...
I do have a patch of leather I strop off the burr..
Hummm ??
you can also take it to a specialist knife sharpener..?

As a WC, I do not recommend using magnets for storing knives because over time the magnet aligns the molecules in the steel, and the knives will no longer hold an edge. Also over heating of the steel in the dishwasher will also cause the edge to dull faster.
