Homemade marinara sauce - help its too sweet, what should i do?!


Question: i made a big pot of sauce tonight, with a bit of sugar and some red wine, but i let it simmer too long and now its too sweet. is there anyway to rescue it?

Three or four capfuls of vinegar! Trust me on this one.

Add a little bit of salt until it tastes right. Salt and sugar cancel each other out.

add more of everything else except whatever sweet thing you put in it. i hate sweet marinara sauce, yuck.

Yeah, vinegar can do the trick or you can try adding a shot of something spicy for kick: tobasco sauce, red pepper flakes, chilis, jalapenos, etc Try it gently and slowly - you may get the sweetness to balance the kick.

Basically you need to add ketchup- and a bit of white vinegar.
