Just so you know, salsa means "sauce" in spanish. The first recipe sounds about right.

1 lg can diced tomatoes, 1-2 green chili peppers cut up, 1 medium onion chopped finely, 1 stalk celery chopped and nuked for about 1 minute, about 1/2 cup chopped green pepper, 2 tablespoons fresh chopped cilantro (1 tsp dried), salt to taste and 4-5 cloves garlic crushed and diced. Mix together and add a quick squeeze of lime juice. Will last about 14 days in refrigerator. (If you like it a little thicker, add a tablespoon or so of tomato paste.)
