yes you can make it then just warm it up when he gets in.
Look it up as shepherd's pie instead and you might find some more help.
No harm in doing it the way you said.
yep. cook it and then warm it up when he gets home. Its even okay to microwave it to warm it up
yes, it takes about 15 mins to warm upin the oven.
Oh make me some too! I dont know how to make it, check recipes.com :) good luck!
yes you can reheat it no problem.
(quick tip, if you add lots of worcestershire sauce to the meat, it will taste yummy).
I make Sheppard's pie with Uncle Ben's sausage. Any kind of gravy a bag of frozen vegetables and Uncle Ben's mashed potatoes. This way once you cook the meat the rest is easy you can bake it put a top on it and feed him the rest of the day.

I would wait and put the cheese on when you reheat it so the crust doesn't burn
Yes, no problem doing that. cook it now then when cooked cover with foil and leave in the oven. it will probably be at a just right eating temperature by 4.30pm.
Yep you can reheat it..
When you do, put some grated cheese on top with a couple of slices of tomato..
Yummy Yummy Yummy.
I don't really know, but man it's good.

Tell him the pie got burnt and now he has to take to out for diner!
yes. you cook the meat, cook the mash. put the mash on the meat. put it in the oven just before or when he comes home, this will brown the top and heat it up.
I just cook about 1 and 1/2 Lbs. of ground beef. Brown it in a pan then add a can of tomato soup. Then add a bag of frozen mixed vegetables. Not the huge bag. If it isn't the right consistency you can add another can of soup. If you choose to add water don't add alot. You can also use garlic powder and black pepper. Then just put over the top of mashed potato's. When your ready to mash potato's use sour cream and butter. Instead of milk use sour cream in your mashed potato's. Once you taste them done this way, you will never make them with milk again.
Shepherds pie is made with lamb, Cottage pie is made with Minced beef.
1/2 tbsp oil
1 small onion chopped
1 medium carrots, chopped
300g/3/4 lb beef mince
200g/7oz can tomatoes
145ml/5fl oz beef stock
1 bay leaf
fresh thyme leaves from 1 sprig
1 tbsp tomato purée
salt and freshly ground black pepper
For the topping:
parsnips, potato and horseradish mash
375g/3/4 lb potatoes, peeled and chopped
112g/4oz parsnips, peeled and chopped
1 tsp creamed horseradish
38g/1oz butter
28ml/1fl oz milk
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5.
2. Heat the oil in a large pan. Add the onion and carrot and cook over a medium heat for 5 minutes until soft.
3. Add the minced beef and cook for 3 minutes to brown.
4. Add the tomatoes, purée, beef stock, bay leaf and thyme.
5. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Season.
6. Make the mash: boil the potatoes and parsnips in water until soft. Drain and mash with the butter and milk. Stir in the horseradish and season with salt and pepper.
7. Spoon the meat into an ovenproof dish. Top with the mash and bake for 30 minutes until golden brown.
Get it ready for 4:45, - ie put in the oven at 4:15, and simply turn off the oven at 4:40 if he is late. - also you can sprinkle some cheese over the top
Yeah put it in the oven so it goes nice and brown on the top!
Hello...My favorite Shepherd's Pie is the one from Taste of Home recipes. You can get it from their website, www.tasteofhome.com, I believe. In case you are given several to choose from, this one calls for sour cream in the potatoes, and cream of mushroom soup and garlic in the meat and corn mixture. It is the only one my husband will eat. The recipe originally comes from TOH's The Complete Guide to Home Cooking. Yes, I believe you can make it ahead and just bake it when you need it. Have fun! Maggy
if you mean shepherds pie you boil and mash potatoes try mixing parsnips in potatoes very good fry mince in frying pan add gravy cook till mince is cooked put in oven proof dish cook for 30 minutes in oven yes cook early then reheat gentle in oven or microwave enjoy it
As the other person said, have a look for 'ShepHerds' Pie', and you might find some good recipies, but, yes, you can heat it up. Most mince dishes taste better as reheats anyway (so says me, someone who hasn't eaten meat for 16 years!)
yep
There are many different versions. I simply scramble the beef, put it in a baking dish, add some creamed or whole kernel corn (even mix the 2) as the next layer, and put a layer of instant mashed potatoes on top. Pop into 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. Sprinkle grated cheese on top if you want and put back in for about 5 minutes to melt. You can cover with foil and reheat.
Shepherds' pie
Serves 4
Preparation time 30 mins to 1 hour
Cooking time 1 to 2 hours
Ingredients
25g/1oz dripping
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 small tin chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp plain flour
225ml/7 ? fl oz chicken, beef or lamb stock
450g/1lb minced lamb
1 tsp anchovy essence
10ml/2sp Worcester sauce
2 bay leaves
2 sprigs of thyme
salt and pepper
For the mash
700g/1 ? lb potatoes
55ml/ 2 fl oz milk
75g/3oz butter
1 egg yolk
Method
1. In a large non-stick casserole dish heat 1 oz of dripping. Add 1 large onion and cook for a further 5 mins.
2. Meanwhile, in a large frying pan, heat a little olive oil and fry the mince up evenly and cook, until browned. While the meat is frying, break up any lumps with the back of the spoon.
3. Stir the onions in the pan and add 1 tablespoon of plain flour (this helps to thicken the juices) and stir. Mix well and add 2 bay leaves, 2-3 sprigs of thyme and the anchovy essence and stir.
4. To the onion mix add the chopped tomatoes, stock (keep a little aside, for putting into the mince pan to de-glaze the pan) and Worcester sauce.
5. Add the cooked mince and then pour the stock mixture into empty mince pan, scraping off any bits of mince left in the pan. Pour the remaining stock into the pan containing the sauce mixture.
6. Bring the mixture to the boil, adding a pinch of pepper and let it simmer for about 45 minutes.
7. Boil the potatoes, sieve and put into a bowl. Add the butter and egg yolk, and mash together. Season with salt and black pepper.
8. Pour the meat into an ovenproof dish and spread the mash on top, smooth over and mark with a spatula.
9. Put the dish into the oven-gas mark 6 until it is bubbling and golden.
