My brother had a similar problem once. He melted the butter in he microwave and added it while hot. Please, tell me that you're not as clueless as my brother :) Anyway, you could had over-worked the dough. Also those types of cookies only require about a tsp. of dough. If you use a cutter, you probably had too much.

keep trying, you learn through mistakes. your not perfect!

possibly quantity of dough used for each cookie...

Weird. Did you check the expiry date on the package?

Are you sure it wasint Playdoh?....LOL

Maybe you over mixed it? I don't think you're supposed to over mix sugar cookie dough...but I could be wrong

It depends on if the dough had been frozen thawed then frozen again. Or there may be too much oil in the butter you used.

it sounds like you did everything right.. ust try the pills berry douugh boy cookies.. they are better:P

It could be many different things. Perhaps the dough was either too cold or too warm. Maybe you over worked it. Sometimes with a dough as sensitive as sugar cookie dough, you can over work it and cause it to melt.. This would explain the over expansion of the final product.

If you measured right, it sounds like the package's problem, maybe there was too much mix in the pack. Try making them from scratch with the recipe that you can find on packages of crisco (the bar kind). It has maple syrup as one of the ingredients. Great recipe! Also chill your dough before you roll it out.

i have a package of those easy bake ones from safeway. mine are betty crocker sugar cookies. they have the same directions as yours. but at the bottom there is another recipe for "cutout cookies" it says to decrease the butter to 1/3 of a cup and stir in two more tablespoons of all purpose flour. mybe you made the cookies for the regular cookies and not the cutout ones
