Dutch Oven?!

Question: What on earth is a dutch oven - I've been hearing too many different things.
I have plans to make a butternut squash soup and it says to use a dutch oven. Could I just use a regular pot?

When someone (like a husband) farts under the covers and then pulls the covers over the wife's head and holds them there (also called a covered wagon). Or, its a pot...

it is a cast iron pot with a lid

A dutch oven is a really heavy pot that heats evenly and has a tight fitting lid. Go ahead and use a regular pot.

A dutch oven is a large heavy pot.
Origionally they were 100% cast iron and you set them on hot coals and even put coals on the lid to make an oven.

A heavy pot will do for the soup. You just need good even heating.

It is just a pot. It is the big round pot you would use for potatoes or soup :)

Basically it is simply a very large pot. Usually for pot roasts or large batches of soup or whatever. If your large regular pot holds all the stuff in your soup by all means just use that.
