What is "peel"?!

Question: I have been searching holiday recipes to see what new things I want to make this year and keep coming across recipes that ask for "peel", not orange peel or apple peel or potato peel, just peel. Sometimes it's candied peel, or mixed peel, but usually just peel. I'd like to try some of these recipes, so will someone please tell me what peel is?

Dang! I never heard of such a thing. Peel? hmmm. But according to this Candied Peel recipe it is grapefruit or orange peels.http://www.waitrose.com/recipe/Candied_P...

I checked several other recipes as well and they also had orange or grapefruit as the common element. but some also had others like lemon. but all are Citrus Peels of some type.
so my answer is: Orange or grapefruit according to which you like best. ;P phhhhh

ps I also brought it up in a image search and mostly orange & grapefriut peels came up when entering "peel candied"
as you can see here

ok, now I'm hungry.

In the candied fruit section you will find Peel - it is peelings from different fruit ,dried and usually candied. Most times the only time you can find it is Holiday time.It comes in a clear plastic tub and is labled "Fruit Peel".Usually right next to the candied cherries and mixed fruit for fruit cakes and such.

I don't know how it's used in the recipes you are looking at but the Food Network definition is" The rind or skin of a fruit or vegetable, such as a tomato or potato peel."
Try going to the Food Network site and check it out in some of the recipes listed there.
