Does anyone know of any food fads of the 1920's?!


Question: I need food to bring to school Friday. Some examples are White Castle burgers, Coca-Cola, Dum-Dum lollipops, 7Up, etc. Thanks.

When Pez candies were invented in 1927 they were marketed as a peppermint sweet treat to help adults stop smoking.

Peanut Butter cups by Hershey were beginning to be manufactured, but they didn't have the traditonal wrapping until 20 years later (1940).

Kool-Aid was first made in the 1920s. Original Flavors were cherry, lemon-lime, grape, orange, root beer, strawberry, and raspberry.
Peanut butter and jelly became more that a 1920s fad when Skippy and Peter Pan started making peanut butter commercially.

In NYC, the Automat was popular...it was a cafeteria style restaurant, where you purchased prepared items through little windows. Aside from that...on the home scene, the casserole was the most popular way of feeding a family, meat potatoes and veggies, all in one dish. For your project, a Hershey bar, virtually unchanged over the years.

finger foods became popular due to Prohibition..they served them in the "speakeasys": Shrimp patties, oyster cocktails,mushroom stuffed with Pimientos
