Tomato sauce emergency!?!

Question: I'm in the middle of cooking a recipe that requires two cans of tomato sauce, I thought I had that much but I can only find one! I do have a can of tomato paste, can I mix it with water to get sauce? If so, how much?
Thanks for your help! The fate of my dinner rests in your hands!

Use the paste & thin it with water, but you should also add just a pinch or so of sugar as paste has a more bitter taste than sauce.

i would definitly give the paste/water a try. Shouldn't hurt, although you didn't say exactly what you were making.

Use the can of tomato sauce and one can of tomato paste and you'll be fine.

Although they are not directly interchangeable, most recipes that use either of these ingredients are fairly forgiving.

Sure can just add water a little at a time so that you don't make it to thin.

Most pastes are a concentrate. Depends on the brand as to how concentrated. Start with a 1/2 and 1/2 ratio. If it seems a bit thick, add a bit more water.

You can use the paste, just ad ? cup of water to it... it should be fine

use the tomatoe past its just tomatoe in its concentrated form, if you wish for a richer, robust taste use it, but remember it can get quite acidic so use at least a tablespoon of sugar to balance everything out. i would know....im Italian and i work for a restaurant

mix equal parts broth with tomato paste and a tiny bit of white vinegar

Absolutely.

add a little tomato paste with h2o , finely grate 2 carrots in place of sugar. that will work i hope i' m not too late.
