Any good recipes for hot apple cider?!
Answers: Would the best bet be to just go to WalMart and buy the packets of "hot cider mix" or something like that? Or is there another simple way to do it - heating Mott's apple juice or something? Whipped cream? Cinnamon, or cinnamon sticks? Any help would be great!

Look in the spice ailse for something called mulling spices. You add this to the apple cider (or juice if you can't find cider) and warm on the stove (keep on lowest setting - if it boils - it isn't as good). This is way better than teh junk in the packets. Gift shops often carry the spices as well, and it is cheaper than buying the individual spices. Or In a pinch (and you have this in the pantry already) - use 3 cinnamon sticks, 1/4 cup whole cloves, and the zest (the orange part of the peel - not the white) of one orange per gallon of cider . For the orange zest, slice it off in large strips rather than a zester which makes itty bitty pieces that will be hard to strain out before serving.
Nothing beats homemade hot cider on a cold day. This is our favorite cider recipe. Enjoy!

Hot Apple Cider
Ingredients-
6 cups apple cider
1/4 cup real maple syrup
2 cinnamon sticks
6 whole cloves
6 whole allspice berries
1 orange peel, cut into strips
1 lemon peel, cut into strips
Preparation-
Pour the apple cider and maple syrup into a large stainless steel saucepan.
Place the cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, orange peel and lemon peel in the center of a washed square of cheesecloth; fold up the sides of the cheesecloth to enclose the bundle, then tie it up with a length of kitchen string. Drop the spice bundle into the cider mixture.
Place the saucepan over moderate heat for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cider is very hot but not boiling.
Remove the cider from the heat. Discard the spice bundle. Ladle the cider into big cups or mugs, adding a fresh cinnamon stick to each serving if desired.
