Ten pts to a good answer! Simple question about a recipe/storage.?!
Answers: My inlaws have a day some time before Christmas where all the men drink beer and the women spend the entire day making candies to send out to people. They call it candy cookie day and they are having it Sunday. Im usual a screw up when i bake things so im tryin to avoid the oven. I found this reciepe but Im not sure if it would be wise because it says to refridgerate the candies. Most people just throw the trays on thier table. Do you think the candies wouldnt be a good idea? Should I forget this recipe and find something else? We each cook about 3 or more things and so far I have only picked two things(excluding this)...does anyone have a simple recipe they would like to offer?
I would think that you want to make things that do not need to be stored in a refridgerator.
Having said that, I'm a guy and really have no good recipes to pass on. However I think more families (especially mine) should start a tradition just like this.
get some chocolate and some vanilla almond bark and melt them (seperatley) puor them onto a coie pan with raised edges after greasing it, and sprinkle chopped peppermint candies on top and refrigerate until hard. hten you can chop them into smaller pieces and put them on cookie plates.
my grandma always made buckeyes! They are the best! Little peanut butter balls covered in that colored chocolaty candy shell.....mmmmm
my mouth is watering, it's been like 12 years!!!!
2 cups crunchy peanut butter
1 pound (3 1/2 cups) fine confectioner's sugar
2 cups crispy rice cereal
1 stick butter or good quality margarine, melted
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/3 paraffin bar
Directions
In large bowl, combine peanut butter, 2 cups confectioners' sugar and cereal, mixing well.
Add butter and remaining powered sugar until well blended.
Shape into balls about the size of a walnut.
Melt together chocolate chips & paraffin wax in double boiler.
Use toothpick to dip balls in chocolate to coat halfway and place on waxed paper to harden.
These also make a great frozen treat.
I think it sounds good personally. But its up to you. Cookies and candies are pretty simple. i am sure your just being tough on yourself.
Good luck enojoy your family day.
Oh, my goodness that sounds so good right now. You can send me some. Just kidding. No, really I would go with that. Sounds easy and I wish you Luck!
Those will not travel well and will melt. I have a super simple cookie recipe that I don't think that anyone could mess up. Very good. I have never made them with the nuts, and everyone loves them.
Easy Butterscotch Chip Cookies
1 package chocolate cake mix (18.5 ounces)
? cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
2 cups butterscotch chips
? cup chopped pecans (optional)
Combine cake mix, oil and eggs in a large bowl. Stir in chips and pecans. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake in preheated 350F oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until centers are set. Let stand for 2 minutes; remove to cool.
here is a good recipe that does not need the oven just the stove top Christmas Divinity Candy

I think it's a great idea!! It sounds like a really great recipe to use...
If you're looking for something extra, why not try the fudge that's in the box? It's super easy to make and NO ONE will guess from where it came! If not, buy some milk chocolate and white chocolate almond bark and coat Oreos or Ritz crackers with peanut butter in them-no fail!!
Divinity's kinda hard to make, especially if you live in a humid environment and it requires a candy thermometer, may not want to try that just yet.
Here is something easy and taste great.
Melt vanilla bark and chocolate bark separately.
Spread peanut butter on Ritz cracker and top with another cracker.
Dip to completely cover the peanut butter cracker and place on wax paper to harden the bark.
Yummy cracker cookies is what my nieces and nephews call them!
These do not need to be refrigerated - just store in air tight container.
How about Rum or Bourbon Balls? - No baking necessary! Plus, they don't need to be refrigerated.
Ingredients:
1? cup toasted pecans, finely chopped (hazelnuts, walnuts, or almonds can be used)
1? cups finely crushed shortbread or vanilla wafer cookies
?cup confectioners sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder (can used Dutch processed or regular unsweetened cocoa powder)
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
?cup rum or bourbon
Garnish: ? cup confectioners sugar
Preparation:
Into a large bowl, sift together the confectioners' sugar & the cocoa powder. Stir in the booze and corn syrup. Stir in the vanilla wafers and walnuts, and mix well. Place in the refrigerator to firm up slightly, about 30 minutes. (The mixture may appear crumbly and dry; this is O.K.)
Place the remaining 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar in a shallow bowl or dish.
Using a tablespoon, scoop out portions of the chocolate mixture and press into 1-inch balls. Using your hands, roll the balls in the confectioners' sugar, coating evenly.
Place on a baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, placing waxed paper between the layers to prevent sticking.
I've done a box for friends with different variations:
Combos I use:
Liquor :: Garnish
Coconut rum :: Coconut flakes
Southern Comfort :: Crushed pralines
Kahlua :: Chocolate covered espresso bean
Frangelico :: Chopped Hazelnuts
Vanilla Rum :: White Chocolate coating (I just used the microwaveable chocolate that hardens as it cools.)
Creme de Menthe :: Chocolate coating & filling (the filling was a hassle)
