Here's my Grandmother's recipe for Hungarian Doughnuts. Enjoy! And Happy Holidays!
FANK
4 egg yolks
2 cakes yeast
3 cups milk
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
6 cups flour
fat for frying
powdered sugar (for sprinkling)
Mix yeast and sugar in luke warm milk. Let stand until other ingredients are mixed. Mix yolks with butter and yeast mixture. Add flour to make a soft dough. Beat well with a wooden spoon. Let stand for an hour. Flour the board and roll dough about an inch thick. Cut out on floured board, cover; let stand for another hour. Fry in deep fat until golden brown. Cool. Sprinkle generously with powdered sugar when serving.
Try refrigerated biscuits. Just cut out a hole in the middle and fry. Sprinkle with your favorite topping.
I buy pizza dough from my local pizza parlor. I cut the dough with donut cutter, fry them or bake them, dip them into toppings.
I like to dip them into chocolate and top with chopped nuts. I also like to shake them in a bag with sugar and cinnamon!
Really bad for you, but take the skinny kind of easy-biscuits. (The kind that comes in 4 packs of long skinny cans in the refrigerator section). Get those and shape each biscuit into ring, drop them in hot oil and fry em up. They are soo good.
Also, if you mix up milk, powdered sugar, and cinnamon, this makes a really great glaze.
