What do you add to chocolate chips to melt for dipping pretzels? Will it harden?!
Answers: Don't use chocolate chips. Go to the store adn in the baking aisle look for a product called Almond Bark. Its not really almond but it comes in little cubes of white and regular chocolate. It is specifically designed for candy making, will work better, and is cheaper than chocolate chips. Also it is semi-sweet like chocolate chips so it is yummy. After you dip the pretzels and lay them on wax paper to dry, sprinkle decorations on them if you want.
You shouldn’t have to add anything, just melt it slowly.
Butter will give you the texture your looking for. Carmel will give it a unique flavor (very good).
I use cream!!
You can use chocolate chips...I've never had a problem with it. You might want to add just a small *small* amount of vegetable oil. It makes it shine a bit and also keeps the chocolate from scorching in the pot.
The baker's chocolate bars is also not a bad idea...whichever floats your boat.
I would suggest you use a double boiler to melt the chocolate. If you don't have one, create a make-shift DB by floating a smaller pot on top of a larger one. This will ensure that your chocolate does not melt too fast.

Here's the recipe I use for dipping. Your coating will be like that which covers boxed chocolates that you purchase.
1/2 block paraffin wax
1 (12-ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
Melt paraffin wax in the top of a double boiler with hot (not boiling) water in the bottom pan. Add chocolate chips and stir until melted. Turn off heat. Dip to entirely coat. Place on cookie sheet to cool.
You have to use a double boiler just put a bowl over a pot of hot boiling waterand then add the chocolate chips with some oil, butter, and slowly add the cream and then just add a little bit of the cream and chocolate mixture back into the bowl of cream and then keep doing this for a little bit longer and then add the rest of it together and then you can put it onto the pretzals and they will eventually harden.
