I think they are under a lot of pressure (fast service) and since they aren't paid well (who can survive on $6 an hour?), it's expected. You can ask them to not fill it to the top and give you some napkins. Also, don't go through the drive thru that way you can clean up the cup before you get into your car. Ask for no ice or very light ice and check when they hand you the drink. If it's not right, refuse to accept it.

just ask them not to fill it up, and order your soda without ice with a cup of ice on the side. problem solved.

If they filled it any less, people would gripe that the cups weren't being filled and they were being ripped off. The poor, unappreciated folks that serve us really can't win now can they?

As to your basic question: NO, because I never drink coffee from any one of the chain stores (Starbucks, Peets, etc).

WHY would I spend 10 times what it costs ME to make ??

I actually LIKE my soda full of ice... just like my MILK !!

The others are right on the full-coffee issue... people would whine and cry that they were being cheated if the cup wasn't full to the brim.

Your concern is about the drive-thru at fast foods..!!!!
well since your so critical,,, don't do that -- - -
Go Inside,, that way you an dump the "EXCESS" coffee and add some ICE to your satisfaction
OR
decide to ADD ice to your soft drink
add the salt or other condiments to your food and get back on the road..
OF course you can try to give specific and precise instructions from you car..
wow that was difficult I need another 10.....
