For what things can I use a food processor?!
Answers: I'm contemplating buying one, but I want to make sure I can use it for more than chopping onions, which is the primary reason because my eyes get too teary when chopping them the old fashion way.
Stop crying. You should certainly invest as it's a great labor saving device whether you want to make soup or chop up mint for mojito. No home should be without one. I always think of it as an essential wedding gift and I recommend to people, if they're getting married, to buy one -- or put the squeeze on friends to chip in for a really good one. It will last longer than most marriages. If you don't know how to use it you should check out this informative article about putting it through its paces. http://www.ehow.com/how_16278_food-proce...
Food processors are good for minced onions only. Not diced.
For a tear free onion, try peeling it 1 day in advanced and put it in the fridge (uncovered).
Food processors are GREAT for making pureed sauces, like pesto. Also, they come with a grater and slicer attachment. I use my grater attachment for cheese and bread crumbs. Personally, I couldn't live without my food processor. I highly recommend them for any cook.
The best brand is "Cuisinart".
Shredding veggies (create for making carrot salad or coleslaw). I use it to puree hummus. You can use it to puree soups, chop veggies and nuts, etc. You can pretty much use it for what you use a blender for. If you really only want to use it for chopping onions, but one of those tiny hand held ones.
Puree's, baby food. I've used it to cut up a block of cheese or create a grated parmesan cheese. Salsa or gazpacho! Very tasty...
