How can i preserve beef?!
Answers: how can i preserve/dry beef without cooking it. what ways can it be done and which is the best way.
For most of human history, the only way to preserve meat was to dry it into jerky. While new methods of meat preservation have now been developed (freezing, chemicals, and so on) many people still enjoy the flavor and convenience of jerky, which is most commonly made from beef. Because moisture and fat must be removed from the meat, it can also be an excellent source of protein, although these nutritional benefits are largely offset by the chemical preservatives applied to most of the jerky products you'll find in stores
Yes, it's called beef jerky - drying the beef. I think Alton Brown on the show Good Eats used a large box fan and furnace filters to air dry his beef jerky. Adding heat just speeds up the process, below 120F. Too high you start cooking the beef (high as in above 140F).
Also, corned beef (salting and curing) is a way of preserving beef to be cooked later.
Making sausage is another method of preserving beef, but I've never tried it.
If you don't want to add any extra chemicals or salt, then you can wrap it very tightly and store in a chest freezer. Beef will probably keep up to a year in a chest freezer, but not a standard referigerator freezer.
food dehydrator
