How do I make perfect rice?!
Answers: I have in bulk long grain rice. I don't have the bag any more. How can I make my rice perfect without being sticky or mushy?
To keep it from getting sticky, I put mine in a large bowl and fill with water. I stir it around then rinse it off. I do this method until the water is pretty clear. This removes the starch which is what makes rice sticky. Then cook as usual. It is 1 part rice to two parts water. 1 cup rice 2 cups water, 2 cups rice to 4 cups water, etc. Put the lid on and set the heat to medium low. Leave lid on, (do not stir,) about 20 minutes. Take a quick peak at it. If you start seeing holes in the rice, it is ready, if not, replace lid and check every 5 minutes (no stirring) until you notice holes in the rice.
Add 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water or broth, bring to a boil, then cover and put heat on low and don't remove lid for 20 minutes and you will have perfect rice everytime!
First, rinse the rice until the water runs clear. Then add one part rice to two parts water. Bring to a soft boil then simmer covered for 15-20 minutes Fluff with a fork when done.
Use parboil rice(Zatarians). It will always come out perfect. When cooking rice; use 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water. Bring to a high boil then lovw temp unitl done. Usually within 12 minutes. You should have light and fluffy rice.
Add cold water about 1" above your rice.
THEN bring to boil uncovered.
Turn down heat.
Cover and let the rice absorb the boiled water until cooked.*****
If the rice is still uncooked, add a bit more water, and repeat process.
When checking, if its too soggy and the rice is cooked..you have put in too much water.
Salt a bit.
Optional:
Butter( a little) added when its boiling
helps it not to stick, gives lovely flavor
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT .
I used all of the answers listed above and thought I did okay, just like them. Then one day there was an oriental market next to a restaurant that I was eating at. I went in to check out the stuff in it and found an electric rice cooker for $14.99. Put in 1-2 cups rice, double the water, push a button and when it dings it's ready. Pretty cool, huh? I still can't bear to put sugar on it like the northern people in the U.S. do though. I got to make gravy! And that my friends leads to a whole litany of continuing problems.
It's really simple.
If it comes out mushy and sticky, use less liquid next time.
