Love that sweet white sauce ....?!

Question: That you put on Christmas Pud! It used to be available in tins from the supermarket but cannot find it now. I mean the plain sweet white sauce ( like white custard ) without brandy or rum in it. Anyone know if it's still available or have a recipe to hand? Cheers ................

Traditional Sweet White Sauce

Ingredients
300 ml of milk
28g butter or margarine
20g cornflour
1 teaspoon of sugar

Method
(1) Melt the butter or margarine into a saucepan. Remove from heat and blend in the cornflour.

(2) Stir in the milk gradually, and add the sugar.

(3) Bring to the boil and simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.

(4) Add seasonal spirits to taste (Rum, Whisky etc.) if required, depending on the occassion.

Can be made in advance, and reheated when required. Ideal for Christmas Pud or poured over Mince pies.

Not sure what you mean.....it is usually either Rum or Brandy sauce....the only other option is custard, but thats yellow....

Ha Ha, you love white sauce.

White sauce. No eggs. Butter, mixed with cornflour, gently add warmed milk and keep stirring. You can then add sugar to taste and a splash (or more) of rum or brandy. Whatever you do, don't turn your back on it. Keep stirring and add the milk gradually. Best of luck. It's a Bechamel sauce without salt and with sugar and alcohol.

Condensed milk you can still get it.

Thought you were going to be dirty....! sorry.... been home alone all weekend....anyway!

Um, yes it's probably brandy sauce though you can just make it with cornflower and sugar without the brandy. So, so easy to make you don't need to buy it! Cornflower (just a liddle bit), Milk, sugar, heat it up. Bob's your uncle. job done.
