Mom wants a Cookbook for Christmas?!
Answers: I've looked on Amazon, but I don't really know any seriously *good* cookbooks. The Professional Pastry Chef / Chef Books by Bo Frieberg are a couple of good choices, but she already has those. What other Cookbooks are out there which provides Recipes to basic everyday dinner meals, but has a name as famous as "The Professional Chef / Pastry Chef"?
"America's Test Kitchen" would be a nice change from the routine cook books. Not only does it have fabulous recipes, but it also tells you "why" they choose the methods and ingredients they use in the test kitchen. (Maybe your mom has seen the TV show?) The book, like the show, also gives the results of tests of different brands of ingredients, and of their tests on kitchen equipment.
I'm a "foodie" and my friend gave me this book last year--I love it even though I already have dozens of other cook books. This year, she has given me a subscription to their magazine. I just got the Xmas one with great baking tips and recipes.
I don't know if it's on Amazon, if not try the America's Test Kitchen web site.
Well if you go down to a cook book store or just a book store and you ask them, im sure they'll point you in the right direction and if they dont have a book they'll order it in for you.
lol Cause thats there job remember ! :)
go to the store and buy her a cheap Rachael ray cookbook
Get a French or Italian cookbook because their food so good!!! =D
Try the "Starbucks Cookbook" all of their yummie pastry recipes are in there
Taste of Home is a popular magazine and puts out cookbooks every year. They test the recipes before printing them to ensure they work. Betty Crocker is another good one. I've seen theirs for sale this year (it's in a big, red binder) and received one last year. I love it because it has tips, hints, substitutes, and is chalk full of helpful info.
Rick Bayless is one of the hottest Mexican Chef's at the moment. He has a PBS show and a restaurant in Chicago.
The New Basics Cookbook is one of my all time favorites, and has been highly rated for many years...I use it a lot and it has everything from easy to elegant, which I love.
The Way to Cook by Julia Child is also a lovely cookbook.
Or think about getting her a specialty cookbook for one of her favorite types of foods - such as Italian, Spanish, French, Japanese, etc...that would be really nice, also.
Paula Dean has an excellent cookbook out called "Celebrates"
It's a great cookbook... she'll love it!!!
you can buy it at barnesandnoble.com

My favourite site is http://www.recipezaar.com and http://allrecipes.com/
Does your mother watch the Food Network? If so, there are many cookbooks from the chefs on that channel. Their website also has a section where you can mail order cookbooks.
You could also go to a local bookstore and have a salesperson help you find a popular cookbook that fits your budget.
