Other than rice or potatoes, what are some side dishes that I could make with my dinner?!

Question: I am finding that we are stuck on eating potatoes or rice. When I cook chicken, pork chops, fish or beef, what are some other alternatives when it comes to side dishes?

alot of people think that pasta dishes are main courses , but you can use them as side dishes , such as, using your favorite pasta with your favorite sauce. mac and cheese is a good one . if you need any recipes let me know. good luck!

try pasta

Cous-cous goes well with chicken and fish. When I make a steak, I often make some angel hair pasta with garlic and olive oil.

Fresh vege sticks will be nice...

grilled veggies in the oven.Mix all your fav. veggies top with a little bit of olive oil +salt pop them in the oven.

different kinds of salads- potatoe salad, mix salad, carrot salad.

I'm assuming you're not looking for veggie ideas and strickly want a starch replacement for your rice and taters. How about stove-top stuffing. Or Pasta. or ganash. or rizzoto. or squash, or yams.

There are a ton of side dishes out there. All types of veggies, pastas, stuffings, etc. even mixing them up can be a treat, try cooking rice with a half cup of salsa thrown in. or instead of mashed potatoes, try mashed sweet potatoes. Cook pasta with some light olive oil, parmesan cheese and grilled veggies.

Below is my favorite side dish recipe site. Enjoy!

Pierogis, corn bread, grits, polenta...just a few ideas.

green beans

Macaroni and cheese or some other kind of pasta.

Cucumber and tomato salad (but that's better in summer when they are all fresh).

Corn bread, biscuits or dinner rolls.

Baked corn is a good option.

you can serve corn.boiled fresh corn on the cob is good with roast beef.you can also use canned corn kernel..you heat it and put a dash of salt or a pat of butter to bring out the sweetness of the corn.you serve it alone or add diced carrots, fresh frozen peas, asparagus bits, red and green bell pepper.choose three types like corn ,carrots and peas or asparagus bits, diced carrots and corn, corn, diced potatoes and diced red and green pepper.

Pastas...macaroni and cheese, macaroni and veggies, macaroni and various sauces (garlic-butter, etc) **substitute macaroni for other shapes of pasta for variety **can substitute regular egg noodles, etc. with spinach/veggie noodles for a healthier diet

Dressings...cornbread dressing, oyster dressing, bread dressing, sage dressing, pork dressing, etc.

Salads...fruit or veggie...you can be adventurous here

Macaroni and cheese or Macaroni salad

I use pasta equally with rice and potatoes. Sometimes its just bow ties with a bit of butter, salt and pepper. Sometimes its pasta alfredo with cream and freshly grated parmesan. And of course there's the good old standby macaroni and cheese

Another healthy alternative is to warm or bake a loaf of really good crusty bread and make a big salad to go with your grilled, broiled or sauteed meat. My husband and son are big eaters and like that as much as the "meat-potatoes-veggie" type meals.

Mac and cheese or noodles with butter and garlic

vermicelli, fried with a little oil and a bowl of salad comprising of lettuce, carrot, cucumber, corn and a dash of cream. yummy!

Try making "club sandwiches".
Open sandwiches with lots of good things on....
Chicken, pork chops, (meat only), beef bits, and so on.
Usually rye bread holds out better, but normal bread will work.
Also;
Cut a loaf of normal bread in to three parts.
Use the crust sides and hollow out.
In the hollow, place curried beef cubes.
Make it a really nice curry with potatoes, green beans and so on...
Serve like that, in the hollow of the bread.
Its called a Bunny Chow and is the local staple diet in Durban South Africa....
Its a cultural exchange thing.....
Try it...

corn casserole
broccoli & cheese bake
creamed spinach
mac & cheese
macaroni salad
