No powdered sugar for icing! Is there away to use regular sugar?!
Answers: Hey, my mom told me that we had powdered sugar, but we don't. I need to have about 20 cookies by tomarow, and I can't go out. Is there an easy way to substatute it?
If you have a blender, you can make "XX fine"(powdered sugar) by running regular sugar through the blender. It chops it and aerates it into powdered sugar.Measure it for your recipe AFTER you have ground it up. :) I do not have a food processor, but I think that would work too.
Silky Vanilla Butter Frosting
This is not your usual butter-cream made with powdered sugar. Butter is beaten into a flour-thickened base to make an exquisitely light and creamy frosting. Not gaggy sweet like those made with powdered sugar, but sweet enough to be the perfect compliment for a cake. Make sure the base is completely cooled before beating in the butter. I added in 15 minutes cooling time, but it will vary depending on conditons.
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cups milk
1 cup butter, softened
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3 1/4 cups
1. In 2-quart saucepan, thoroughly combine sugar and flour.
2. With wire whisk, gradually stir in milk until smooth.
3. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until mixture has thickened and boils.
4. Reduce heat to low; cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
5. Remove from heat and cool completely.
6. In medium bowl, with mixer at medium speed, beat butter until light and fluffy.
7. Gradually beat in milk mixture; beat in vanilla
Mix 1 cup granulated sugar + 1 tablespoon corn starch in blender until powdery, stirring often makes powdered sugar
or a recipe using granulated sugar
1 cup milk
1/4 cup flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup margarine, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
In a saucepan, whisk together milk and flour. Cook until thick, stirring to prevent sticking. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
Place sugar, shortening, and margarine in a mixing bowl and beat until fluffy, about 5 minutes.
Add to cooled flour and milk mixture and beat well. Stir in vanilla.
