Question: If I boil a dozen eggs , maybe 6 of them will peel ok, the rest won't. What's the secret?

Crush the shell by beating it lightly with a tea spoon.
Dip the tea spoon in cold water and use it to peel the shell off by inserting it upside down between the shell and the egg.
Shell comes off clean

I've heard that submerging them in ice water helps them peel better.

my secret is...

COLD WATER

after you hard boiled them put it soaked in cold water before peeling. the colder the better. leave at about 5 minutes or so.

and voila! you will get eggs that are easy to peel.

try it!

crack the egg at the pointed end.Always peel starting there.

I boil my eggs for 10 to 15 mins (sometimes I forget them LOL), then dump the hot water and run cold water over them. Once the water stays cool, I let them sit for about 10 mins in the water to cool completely. Then peel. I have never had an egg stick or break....my Dad will drive all the way to my house just so I can make his eggs because he can not seem to get them to peel right.

what works for me is...when there done boiling, drain and place in ice water, tap egg on the counter to crack shell, place back in ice water. The water gets under the shell and makes it peel easier.

you have to drain them out of the water then you run cold water over them for about 30seconds then crack the shell lightly and it peels right off.

Very fresh eggs are difficult to peel,so if you get them at a farmers market you will need to bear this in mind ,attempt to peel after eggs are totally cold, tap in several places to crack the shell.then rub between the palms of your hand ,this loosens the plane between the shell & the egg ,take care with the first bit of shell, then the rest is easy.Any way you do it it is a task to be done with patience.

When the shell is stubborn and is hard to peel, that is usually a sign of a very fresh egg. Eggs that are older...about 10 days or so in the fridge usually peel the best. When I boil mine I throw in I guess about a 1/4 of a cup of vinegar to the water.

After boiling it for 10mins., I dump out the hot water and run cold cold water into the pot and shake the pot while do this to put cracks into the whole egg shell. When you peel it, be sure to grab the thin layer of skin with the peel.
