Would evaporated goats milk be alright to substitute for heavy cream?!

Question: I'm trying to make a mocha cheesecake and the recipe I have calls for 8 oz. heavy cream. I don't have any but I do have a can of evaporated goats milk. It says on the can that it can substitute for heavy cream in recipes, but I'm not sure if it will make the cheesecake taste funny or not.

If it says it on the can then the manufacturers/kitchens have tested it. Goats milk is very good & easy on the stomach and it will not make your cheesecake taste 'funny'. After all, think of all the wonderful goat cheeses available & delicious. I have one friend who won't use anything but goats milk and she is a great cook. Nothing tastes 'funny' in her kitchen and nobody has any stomach problems either.

You'r welcome, glad you like it. ......... You know something? I just discovered how to use the"comment" section to thank you. For goodness sake there are some folk out there that must think I'm a most discourteous person. I'm just not computer literate but I'm learning more every day. Report It

  • It might work, but it would probably taste off. I would just go and get some heavy cream and use the goat milk for something else.

I agree with the first answer. The heavy cream serves a purpose. It would probably work, but it would affect the texture and the taste. Whenever you substitute, things just do not come out the same. Sometimes they taste ok, but the look can be affected. However I am no cook. I follow the rules!!!! Hahaha!!

Wow Evaporated goat milk . That's a new one for me and I cook all the time.
