How can you make toffee that doesn't stick to your teeth?!
Answers: I've had some in the past, homemade, that wasn't sticky. Can adding baking soda help? The recipe I use is simply 1 cup butter, 1 cup sugar, 3 T. water, 1 T. corn syrup, plust choco chips and almonds. If I need to add baking soda, how much?
yeah....half tsp. i make the same one!
I was just going to make my toffee, but I found out I lost my recipe. The one I used did call for baking soda, but I've yet to find a recipe online that uses it. I'm hoping someone has the recipe I'm looking for and if so, I'll add it on to this answer.
Okay, I just found this recipe. It has the baking soda in it. Roast the almond at 350 for about 10 minutes. The temperature you want to cook the candy is probably 300 degrees from the other recipes I've looked at. I hope this works!
1 cup chopped roasted almonds
1 cup BUTTER
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup or more chocolate chips
Directions
Sprinkle half the almonds on a buttered 9x13 inch pan.
Melt butter in a heavy sauce pan, add sugars and water, mix well.
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Cook to "hard crack stage".
Remove from heat, QUICKLY stir in baking soda.
Pour carefully over almonds, let set for about 5 minutes, sprinkle chocolate chips over top, press in or spread.
Let cool, break into pieces and enjoy.
I think the peson who wrote this recipe forgot to add one more thing. She mentioned using only half of the almonds in the beginning. I remember the recipe I used called for crushing the other half and sprinkling it on top of the melted chocolate.
