Question: My granny made these every christmas. I dont have the recipe, but does this sound familiar to you? If so and you have the recipe, will you share it with me? Thank you!
Italian Date Nut Filled Cookies
the filling was a mixture of chopped medjool dates, chopped walnuts, sugar, corn syrup and whiskey cooked on the stovetop until thick.
I have searched the internet for it but cant find anything. Your help is appreciated.

DATE NUT FILLED COOKIES

1 c. shortening
1/2 c. sour milk or buttermilk
4 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. soda
2 eggs
2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix shortening, brown sugar, eggs. Stir in sour milk and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients. Mix. Drop 1 teaspoons 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Place 1/2 teaspoon date mixture on dough. Cover with 1/2 teaspoon dough. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.

DATE NUT FILLING:

2 c. dates or raisins, chopped
1/2 c. nuts
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. water

Cook together slowly. Stir in nuts after thickened. If raisins are used, use 2 tablespoons lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
