most likely it was Fondant that you seen...BUT regular Fondant tastes nasty (IMHO) and the store bought stuff is even worse....so i would suggest making Marshmallow Fondant.
super duper easy...almost like working with dough...
you will need...
16 oz bag of marshmallows
a bag of powdered sugar
2 tbl water

melt the marshmallows in the micro with the 2 tbl of water....then in another bowl pour half the bag of powdered sugar into it, make a little well in the middle of the pile and pour the melted marshmallow into it once it has cooled a bit so that it isn't too hot when you touch it...
now just combine the marshmallow anf powdered sugar together in the bowl...
it will turn dough like...you will then need to knead the mixture on a flat surface. sprinkle some powdered sugar onto it so the mixture doesn't stick...now just knead away....the mixture SHOULD NOT be sticky....so just keep adding powdered sugar to it till its not anymore...once done kneading, wrap in saran wrap and put in fridge over night or for at least 2 hours...then take it out when ready to use. If the mixture is hard from being in the fridge just put it in the micro for 10 SECONDS and it will be workable....
to color the fondant i woudl suggest using Wilton color gels...add the color to the mixture when melting the marshmallows...or you can add it when you take it out of the fridge and just knead the color in (wear gloves though)

also if you want to flavor the Fondant some, you can use some flavoring in place of the water, i wouldn't use mroe then a teaspoon of flavoring though, and keep in mind whatever kind of flavoring should be clear so that it doesn't alter the color of the Fondant

It was probably fondant. It's a thick icing sort of topping for cakes. You might be able to get some from a local bakery.

Yeah it's called modeling chocolate.

Marzipan (almond paste) or fondant (the recipe above is the one I use and it is delicious)...
