Baking measurements?!

Question: Can anyone tell me how much a 'cup' (as used to measure out ingredients in many american recipes) might be in kilograms or millilitres or pints o anything that I can relate to! A cup is too vague a measurement for me!!
Thanks for your help

A cup is equal to 16 tablespoons or 1/4 quart or 8 ounces (fluid) or 1/2 pint. You cannot convert volume to weight as some people mistakenly do. This confusion arises because of the morons who invented the English System. They gave the same unit name (ounces) to both volume and weight. They are not the same!!! It would be the same as trying convert inches to pounds; it can't be done.

If you have an ingredient you are measuring on a scale but don't have measuring cups, then go to Free Recipe Exchange or GourmetSleuth.com. Both these websites have charts with how much a cup of a specific ingredient weighs. FYI: A cup of both butter and water weighs about 8 ounces.

These websites also have metric/english conversions

Hope this helps
