I have a fudge recipe that calls for evaporated milk but I bought sweetened condensed milk, should I reduce..?!

Question: the amount of sugar that is also in the recipe or cut it out completely? It calls for chocolate chips and marshmallows.

if u want them to come out perfect then go back to the store and get the evaprated milk
the condensed milk wont ever make it quite the same.

go buy evaporated milk.

keep it

you should try it i do that sometimes :)

If you want the fudge to be like your mother-in-law's, go back to the store and get the evaporated. It's not worth the risk.

You should go back to the store and get evaporated milk. I don't think that recipe will work with sweetened condensed milk, I am not sure the fudge will harden. You don't want to waste your other ingredients or your time, so just run up to the Quik Trip and get some evaporated milk.

Yep!! Leave out the amount of sugar called for in the recipe. It will be good but not like Mom's.

Go back and get the can of Evaporated milk!!! if you want it to taste and have the texture of Mom's fudge.

You can use the Eagle Brand for something else during the christmas season.

No! It won't work. It doesn't blend well. You must use the Pet Evaporated or the other store-bought canned milk . . . NOT the already sweetened evaporated milk; such as the ever-so-popular Eagle Brand. You will wind up eating the fudge with a spoon if you don't. Savvy?

And here is one direct answer, what a lot of sugar!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condensed_m...
Here is Carnation's data on the two - notice in table 3 gm sugar vs 22 gm in 2 tablespoons (sugar per an eSearch is 4 gm per teaspoon so 22 gm is 5.5 teaspoons dry or just under the 6 teaspoons in 2 tablespoons)

use what you have sweetened condensed milk is only evaporated milk with a lot of sugar dissolved into it. and yes is sweetened condensed milk has a considerable amount of sugar you may want to cut out the sugar in the recipe completely since you are also adding marshmallow and choc. chips

Sounds great! But it won't turn out too well if you used the sweetened condensed. Run out and get a can of evaporated.

sorry hun, you gotta use evaporated milk....but try this recipie for the sweetened condensed milk...

If you use it yes cut the sugar. I would go back and get evap milk.
