Can I refreeze the chicken after I defrosted them in the refrigerator?!

Question: I defrosted the chicken in the fridge for about 24 hours and I was wondering if I can put the chicken back in the freezer? If not, why and what other way can I refreeze it?

you can but you will have poor quality chicken when you thaw it again. each time you freeze and thaw it water is forced out oif the pores of the meat. the texture is what will change not so much the flavor. you would be better off cooking it and then freezing it. even if you partially cook it and then quick freeze it.

not safe to refreeze raw chicken, the safe and best way is to cook it , let it cool and then freeze it.

I have heard that you are not to re-freeze any meat after it has been thawed, but i do it all the time and nothing has happened and it doesnt change the taste...i always defrost something, dont get it cooked and instead of wasting it, i just toss it back in the freezer...when you think about it, some markets that dont cut their own meat, get it shipped frozen and then its thawed when out in the cases for sale and we take it home and freeze it again........

No you can't refreeze any meat once it has been thawed as the bacteria can reach critical levels in doing so. Botulism is not someone you want at your dinner table. I cut mine into bite sized pieces and brown it then once cooled, I freeze in 1 pound increments so all I have to do is thaw and add it to my rice dish, salad, soups, etc that calls for diced cooked chicken. It is a great dinner saver. I also do it with ground beef for things like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, spaghetti, etc.

NOOOOOO! You could get botulism, and it's deadly. You can cook it and then re-freeze it. Just bake it or grill it and stick it in a ziplock bag and back in the freezer, and take out pieces when you want to use them. Thaw in the microwave.

No, once defrosted bacteria will form if not cooked quickly.Chicken is one of the worst foods for this, also pork. If you don't need it, cook it first, then freeze it(casserole or something).

You have been given reasons why you cannot refreeze defrosted chicken ,while some say you can ,without harm..The point is there is no way to tell off hand if raw defrosted meat has thawed to the extent of permitting bacterial entry & resultant multiplication.
Goes without saying that it is not advisable, why would you want to risk a serious infection ?chances are you may not face this eventuality but it is a risk all the same.So play it safe,it is worth getting out the pan & doing a bit of cooking, even if it the simplest recipe ever iy is going to be worth the effort .

I recommend that you better cook it now, or at least put it into boil. The more time it passes more bacterias. But I think that after 24hrs. it may have a lot. Does it look brownish? does it smell? those are signs that its lost and then even when you refrigerate it when you cook it it will taste funny and you may get a stomach desease. Whats done now its done!

churchon is right.
