Frozen blueberries in a coffee cake?!

Question: I am using a new recipe for a coffee cake that says specifically "Fresh, frozen, or canned blueberries will work. Just make sure they are drained". I am wondering, if I do use frozen blueberries, do they have to be thawed out? I would think it wouldn't hurt, but also don't know that it would be necessary. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've not used frozen blueberries in a coffee cake but have used them in blueberry scones, with no problem. I don't thaw them before baking.

i have never had "cawfee" cake myself

The advantage to using frozen blueberries is that it will reduce or limit the coloring (blue from the berries) in the batter. I would toss the berries in a little flour first which would allow for a better distribution of the fruit.

I would thaw them first then drain them. The ice crystals would add more moister to the batter.
