If you don't have gravy, what can you eat with mashed potatoes?!

Question: I am a former chef and laway like to flavour mine, either with different cheeses, wasabi, roasted garlic, sauteed onions, green onions, sour cream or even a bit of bacon.

For a real treat I will make a nice one with grated parmesan cheese and cream, and drizzle some truffle oil over them, it is up to you, and there are so many combinations of flavours you can try almost anything.

creamed corn

pour over some chili, sloppy joes, or some salsa

you can top it off with:
butter
horseradish
sour cream
french fried onions

Butter, sour cream, sauteed mushrooms and onions, shredded cheddar cheese.

Ranch dressing or sour cream, bacon bits.

I would suggest ketchup, it is very tasty. Or you can add toppings such as scallions, butter, sour cream, melted cheese, and more.

Here are some recipes. Hope this helps.

2 cups mashed potatoes (approximately)
1-2 egg
1/4 cup flour
salt
pepper
garlic
onions (optional)
chives (optional)
cheese (optional)
oil or Crisco, for frying
sour cream (optional) or applesauce, for garnish (optional)

-Mix all ingredients into mashed potatoes.

-Preheat skillet and add a couple of tablespoons of Crisco shortening or oil.

-Make sure the mix is not too thin.

-Pour 1/4 cup batter into hot pan; brown on both sides and enjoy with sour cream or applesauce.

-Enjoy!

Ham 'n' Cheese Mashed Potatoes

INGREDIENTS

2 cups mashed potatoes
3/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1 cup diced fully cooked ham
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, whipped

DIRECTIONS

In a bowl, combine the potatoes and garlic salt. Spread into a greased 1-1/2-qt. baking dish. Sprinkle with ham. Fold cheese into whipped cream; spoon over ham. Bake, uncovered, at 450 degrees F for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

You can add cheese, bacon, green onions and sour cream to the mashed potatoes to make them like a baked potato. Or you can make potato salad by adding in eggs, pickle relish, mayo, mustard and salt and pepper to taste.

Sautee some onions in butter and mix them in. Toss in a pinch of black pepper, as desired.

Try mixing in some garlic & chives and butter at the very last minute. You won't need gravy if the potatoes are tasty!

Corn or baked beans, yummmmm

Depends on what else I'm eating.. If I'm eating meatloaf I put a little Hunt's tomato sauce on my potatoes. Just eating potatoes I will use applesauce, some hot creamed corn or eat them plain(butter/milk)

If you make your mashed potatoes right, you don't need gravy. I boil my potatoes and drain them. Warm some heavy cream in the microwave, or on the stove. Brown some butter in the pan you boiled the potatoes in. Toss the potatoes with the butter. Mash them a bit by hand, add some of the cream, mash some more. Add some more cream, at this point you can mash them some more with the hand masher or use a power mixer, which ever you prefer.

sometimes i put garlic, butter, or a little salt. But if you want to stay with a healthy topping, i'd try a little pepper. It adds much flavor.

butter and sweet peas...make a birdsnest
