Is salad dressing a dairy product?!

Question: If not, then what is it?

Answers: If not, then what is it?

Are you talking about Miracle Whip? If so, that is a mayonnaise type product and is not dairy. Mayo is an emulsion of egg and oil with seasonings. The main difference between mayo and Miracle Whip is that MW has sugar and more vinegar. I just found the ingredients to MW posted online. It does not contain ANY dairy (milk) products: water, soybean oil, vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, modified food starch, egg yolks, salt, mustard flour, artificial color, potassium sorbate as a preservative, spice, paprika, natural flavor, dried garlic.

If you mean salad dressings in general, it depends on the specific dressing. Buttermilk Ranch is, obv, a dairy product. Caesar isn't, as it just has garlic, anchovies, salt, egg, lemon juice and oil. No dairy. Some oil and vinegar dressing have grated hard cheeses, while some don't.

As far as a classification, like 'dairy' 'meat' or 'vegetable', I would put it in the top of the food chart pyramid, as 'fat', or 'oil'. But that's a tricky one, because of the many low-fat dressings now on the market.

As you can see, there are as many types of salad dressing as there are cooks! Hope this helped

Not all of it.

no its an oil

depends on the dressing
ranch is more of a dairy product than italian dressing

It depends on which salad dressing your are asking about.

Some jars of mayo are called salad dressing..and yes that is a dairy product.

Also..ranch is diary as well.

No. It's either oil based or mayonnaise based (99% of the time). Mayonnaise is made from eggs and oil and spices and is not dairy. Those dressings typically need refrigeration. There are some dressings that have sour cream or heavy cream but they represent a small percentage of the lot.

SALAD DRESSING CAN BE MANY THINGS OIL AND VINEGAR,A MAYO BASTE ONE(LIKE FRENCH DRESSING), THERE ALSO SOME MADE WITH YOGURT,AND SOME MADE WITH SOY YOGURT,AND SOME MADE WITH CITRUS, NAMASTE

Well I think is not on the dairy products because I read some food group books and when I read the dairy product's one it says that salad dressing is not belong long to the dairy products so then when I read another food book it says that dressing is belong in the extra group so I think that is the answer for you.

i am pretty sure that mayo and cesar salad dressing are dairy but the others are oil and vinegar based..

Only the dressings made with buttermilk(not all ranches and bleu cheeses are). A good hint is if the dressing is refrigerated when u buy it.
